Hi all!

I am quite new to this forum as to the whole WH40k. I always wanted to start but didn't manage to do so for a quite some time. Right now I started collecting DA, mainly because of awsome Deathwing Knights(I know that 7ed is mainly shooting), Black Knights and Dark talon(I know it is a medicore flayer).

Right now I have DV set(10 tac squad, 3 bikers, 5 termies, librarian and company master), Chaplain with jump pack and set of Deathwing Knights/Termies/Command squad(I didn't glue it yet). I wanted to expand it a little bit and I thought of Ravenwing Command squad and Assault squad for my chaplain.

Is it a good plan or you think I should buy something else? I am not a competitive player, mostly because I've just started but I don't want my army to be completly uplayable so any advice would be awsome

If you're not competitive, buy the models you like. You'll have more fun that way.

Now I am not but in the future it might be my thing so I dont want to buy models that are completly useless, that's why I'm asking

Unless you want to play an unbound force you probably either want another tactical squad or a scout squad so you can get a FOC army.

Either that or find a DA formation you like and build towards completing it.

If you like unbound then just get what peaks your fancy most and go for it.

I'd suggest figuring out which "wing" you like to play the most and make purchases accordingly. You like bike? Go Ravenwing. If lots of tactical marines in metal boxes tickles your fancy then go Greenwing. You like elite infantry and deep striking then DW's for you.

Competitively, Ravenwing or the Lion's Blade Strike Force with a double demi-company giving you free transports will be the strongest of the 3. Unfortunately DW armies aren't all that competitive. A Lion's Blade/Ravewing mix seems to be doing really well right now to.

My advice, if you know you're going to want to be more competitive later start working towards it now. I originally just bought models I liked and, while I still like them, I never use them and wish I had originally focused on more competitive stuff first. That being said, if you just want to play for fun then buy what you like and don't worry about the rest.

I like DW very much but it seems like it is not in the meta right now. Maybe the best bet is to wait till 8ed? I had already like 25 minis to paint and I don't have that much time - my speed of painting is about 1 figure per two days(evenings)...

I would suggest getting another TAC squad, a Ravenwing bike squad box, another Deathwing squad, and a character in terminator armour. This will give you a CAD and the Deathwing redemption force.
Then long term I would suggest getting another TAC squad, a devastation squad, an assault squad, and land speeder or a Darkshroud/Vengeance.
This will then give you a battle Demi-company, a Deathwing redemption force and a Ravenwing attack squadron. These three detachments then can be combined to form a Lion's blue strike force.

Ravenwing is definitely the competitive way to go.

Black Knights are superb. Land Speeders with the Supporting Fire rule are superb. Get a Dark Shroud to buff your bikes jink saves.

Re-rollable jink save units with T5, 3+ armour, twinlinked plasma and hitting hard in cc make for a very strong army.
