Recently I had a game of AOS with my FEC vs Sylvanenth. This was only my 2nd game and I have a few things to ask because I need some clearing up as I have another game during this weekend.
1) my pts is 1500 and currently I have used 1080 with 420 not being used. I understand you are able to summon units during the Hero Phase (FEC use Command Abilities). However I don't fully understand "Summoning". Do i need to A) have the unit listed in my army to have them be able to summon e.g. I have 2 units of Crypt Horrors and I only filed one of them, then have my King on Tgheist summon the other 3 in which makes the 6 I have in my army or is it B) I can summon anything without it being listed if i have the points available e.g. I don't have Crypt Ghouls on my list what so ever but can I use the King on Tgheist ability to summon 3 of them (a unit) and then take there points cost away from my summoning pool?
2) Are Command Abilities and Traits the same thing e.g. when I pick/roll a trait do I pick one of those six and have my Command ability as well. or, do I choose from the table of 6 and my ability meaning I use one only one of them?
My opponent said I could only use one of them so that's the way we played but I felt like that was wrong as it made my FEC feel very limited although, I'm not to sure as I don't have much experience with the game.
3)on the Artifacts of Death table there is the "Sword of Unholy Power" and it states that "Once per battle, in their hero phase, the bearer is allowed to cast a spell that summons models with the DEATH keyword to the battlefield. This is in addition to the spells the bearer can normally cast. The spell is cast automatically, and cannot be dispelled".
Does this mean (if I have the spare points) that I could summon a Tgheist or even a King on Tgheist because they have the DEATH Keyword or is it limited to units that are normally summoned (Ghouls, Horrors, Flayers, Courtiers, Blood knights etc).
It would be pretty clutch if I could summon something that powerful late game or when things turn South, But my opponent said I couldn't do it that way so I didn't use it as I was unsure of what to do.
4) which Allegiance is better FEC or Death? FEC lets me use Crypt Horrors as a Battleline if I used a Crypt Courtier as my general or is Death better over the Command Traith and Artifact. Does FEC Allegiance add anything more then what I have mentioned? I just want to play my FEC the best way possible.
Thanks in advance to yer help and all replies are welcome. The sooner I know the better!
Heres my list at the moment feel free to dissect it to make it better and more effective.
2) No, you can only use one command ability a turn but a command trait granted by allegiance is seperate. As FEC you'll want to take Master of the Night
3) Only units which have a summon spell on their warscroll. Also note you could have deployed that unit at the start so the advantage here is to summon it in a better position and/or pick a summon that's specifically suited to deal with your opponents army.
4) Irrelevant since you should be using the Ghoul Patrol battalion. It fills battleline and is ludicrously cheap for what it does.

Cheers for the reply.
1) So I can summon anything and not have to worry if there on my list or not? Sweet.
2) Okay that clears everything up, thank you. Master of the Night? do you mean Ruler of the Night or Master of the Black Arts?
3) Well see I was gonna use my King onTgheist to have the Ring of Immortality so that when he dies he will come back with D3 wounds and when that was destroyed i was going to use the Sword of Unholy Power to summon and Death Tgheist and basically have 3 mobile bat bombs all at different stages. Your thoughts?
4)Irrelevant? But I have to pick and Allegiance and a Ghoul Patrol is a Battalion which I can bring with either Death or FEC Allegiance. I just want to know which one is better in terms of buffs.
Even with FEC allegiance you'll be using the Death command traits and artifacts. Ruler of the Night was the command trait I meant, improving the deathless minions roll is very beneficial to FEC.
Also be careful with the ring. It requires you to pay the reinforcement points to revive your character, so be sure you are saving points to do that if you decide to use the ring. Generally people avoid the ring because instead of having one ghoul king on bat that revives after the first time it dies, but with only d3 wounds, you can have two for the same amount of points. Its a cool idea that unfortunately puts you at a severe disadvantage points-wise when it comes to matched play.

Thank you for the reply.
I didn't know the Ring used reinforcement points until I read the recent FAQ and it has put me off using it (unless i was in playing a game with 2500+pts). It does make the Ring limited unless it is put on a model with low cost value and a model that is needed for your army.
Your right in saying I could just field 2 of them for the same points, have one lay back giving my other FEC buffs and once I lost one of them I could send up the 2nd one and continue on with my attacks.
