Hey all, I thought about posting this in the list forum but I'm looking for what to get next as opposed to how my list actually is.

Basically after hunting after discounts I've been able to grab the Start Collecting for Space Marines, the Tacticals + Drop Pod box, an Assault Marines box, and last but most certainly not least Roboute Guilliman. If I really wanted to I could a 1000 point that would probably be pretty bad, but like I said I'm more interested in what to get next.

Here's a little rundown of what I've got:

1 Termi Captain
2 Tactical Squads
1 Assault Squad
1 Venerable Dread
1 Drop Pod
1 Lord Commander of the Imperium Primarch of the Ultramarines Roboute Guilliman

I'm thinking of getting a couple of 10 man Devastator teams with 2 lasscanons and 2 plasma canons each so I can combat squad them and get the plasma canon devs the cherub thing. Other than that was thinking of getting the Company Command box and to also get Rhinos serve my transport needs with the dread being in the drop pod for tank hunting. Also thinking about getting Predators, but I know those are more iffy. Also for context I am rather new (started collecting in December) and my current and only army is Orks.

I would get Centurions instead of power-armored Devastators. For 240 points you get 15 grav shots and 3 hurricane bolters on a reasonably durable unit that can fire on the move. It's alot of firepower.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Eh... the $78 price is a little off putting for centurions.

Personally, I think your focus should be on transports first, whichever variety you desire. Pods would be my recommendation, but razorback and rhinos have value as well depending on what you put into them.

Devastators seem fine, grav is best for them but ymmv...

With 8th edition so close to the horizon, and units subject to changing soon with regard to their usefulness, I'd stick with things that will always be useful, (transports), and build around a formation like Gladius, to round out your army.

Eh, not trying to sound virtuous or anything but I don't really want to use any grav. Not only do people seem to hold lots of grav with comparable ire to riptides and eldar bikes, I find them boring from a flavor perspective; well boring might be the wrong word but they just don't click with me.

As for which transports to use I've been trying to figure that out. I think I read somewhere that there are some transports Bobby G can use but I don't remember. Either way I'd rather have him all ready with a majority of my army rather than having him and like 2-3 other units waiting for the drop pods to come in, so I'm leaning on more Rhinos than drop pods.

even so centurions are proably a good approuch, the firepower on even non grav is good (equip em with Lascannons and you'd got a reasonably good unit that can handle armor, or use his hurricane bolters to shred infantry) assuming you're not gonna scavange your tac squads for the marines you'd also need to buy some tac marines to fill out a ten man dev squad meaning you'll end up spending MORE then a squad of cents would cost.

something to consider.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Unless you are running your Devastator squads with only 5 guys(which means casualties are going to immediately result in loss of heavy weapons), its actually about the same $$$ to get a 10 man Devastator squad(2 boxes) as it costs to get a 3 man Centurion squad. The Devastator box only comes with 5 bodies.

You don't have to use grav, that's definitely a true statement.

But if you're worried about getting a reputation as "That Guy" to the point where you'd gimp yourself, just pick a sub-chapter of Marines that don't have grav access.

One of the defining characteristics of Codex: Space Marines is grav weaponry. Without it, you can get better perks with other codexes that are still running Marines. You could run Blood Angels, you could run Grey Knights, etc.

Or just don't use Grav. Centurions and other models can take non-grav weapons.
