Hi! I'm rebasing all my models, should I use 25mm or 32mm? I got a new CSM desolator squad and they all came with 32mm bases, so I'm a bit confused.

GW made a switch maybe a year ago to 32mm bases for standard Space Marines. Up to you. Doesn't impact the game rules too much. If matching base sizes bug you, do 32 or buy some 25's for your new figures.

I don't use GW bases for my figures but I do 25mm for basic troops and if a model is large/flying/unstable (wraithguard, swooping hawks, warp spiders) I use a 30mm base to ensure they don't tumble.

32mm was probably a move to match a lot of the AoS figures which are ever-increasing in scale. Easier for GW to have a consistent base (they produce less types).

Space Marines look great on 32mm bases and many of GW's models are in this wide, squatting stance that has their feet hanging off the edges of 25mm bases. If you're re-basing, go with 32mm.

I base with 30mm i got them off ebay for cheap , they are slightly smaller in height aswell , but i think they look really good

Another vote for 32mm. You can do much more with basing with the amount of room you'll have.

Go with 32. They look so much better on marines.

They really do. Once you start using them, you'll look at those little 25s and think "How did I ever fit these guys on here?"

Doubly true. I have rebased hundreds of old marines now to 32mm and they look so much better. 25mm just looks bad now, lol.

I'm with Elbows: if you're consumed by the OCD idea of consistency (like me) or just think 32s look better, go for 32s.

And also what Ian said: there are alternate 32mm bases around. Here's some at Heresy Miniatures.

(Personally I've switched to Renedra bases, like Elbows, but for everything except 28mm sci-fi. Although I'm wavering.)

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

Thank you for all the response! I'll base all my CSM's with 32mm, and the cultists will keep their 25mm

I mostly agree with this and at the end of the day it's up to you as they are your models. Tournaments may have regulations. I've modelled my WS and SH on 32 mm so they don't fall as much. But then I don't run my WS this edition cause I like playing my friends :/

However back in 5th ed someone local modeled all his stuff on smaller bases. Wolves on 25 mm, Thunderwolves on 40 mm, etc and he was able to use Rhino's and terrain to block LoS yet still snake through all those models from narrow gaps.

So keep in mind you will see some people may use smaller base sizes against you.

Locally we all go big and have a couple house rules. Dryads, Gors, and other BL units we tend to count the 32 mm as 25 for the purposes of Reach, to avoid base arguments and allow for larger more scenic bases. We tend to play more friendly and since people need to take Core it's soemthing we've come to agree one.

Hope that helps
