Hello guys, im just about to start in this game and i ordered the warmachine 2 player battle box.
I want to make my own board and i was wondering if the standard 4x4 is too much for the size of the armies that come in the battlebox
should i make a smaller board or should i wait until i expand the armies and make a 4x4 board?

Make a 4'*4' and mask off a section to make a 3'*3'. Or just set up closer to the centre. After 5-10 games you'll probably be ready to expand and are unlikely to go back.

4x4 is still fine at the BB size. You want that room for positioning and the approach.

I've always used 4x4 for battle box sizes.
Sure, you'll have 2 turns of running each but it's good practice for larger games.

4x4 is good for any games below 100 points(so 99% of games). 3x3 would work for small games, but its not worth making a permanent 3x3 board.

4x4 board is the default size.
I would probably just get some masking tape and mark out a 3x3 area for your battle box games. Once you expand, go back to 4x4

If you want to just play on a 3x3 on a 4x4 board, just add 6" to deployment zones. That will cut the distance between armies by a foot total. Effectively making your board 3x3 without needing to do any cutting or taping.

Also keep in mind that the Battle boxes come with the 2x2 board designed for battle box games. Its an easy to get into the game before deciding to expand and make a board.
