So I recently got the traitor legions book and im loving it, my main problem is it calls them legions.
I have gone for a blood disciples brass colour scheme on my models but I love the look of things like alpha legion, while I would normally play world eater I love the look of the others and I find it hard to just stick with on permanent thing.
Could I use of legion detachments with a khorne painted army?

That since nobody cares one whit about colour schemes so you have same models jumping between white scars, ultramarines, iron hands, blood angels, grey knights and hell why not with chaos marines why should you feel bad about changing colour scheme?

Aight cheers!
I just felt that people would be like "No! You shall not use khorne-painted models with alpha legion!" But then I realised, A nobody cares and B nobody said the detachments were the alpha legion just in the style of alpha legion, whats stopping some khorne-painted marines not worshipping khorne and taking inspiration from the alpha legion?

There is no rule that states your models need to look like the legion they're representing.

Sure, people will appreciate it, but the very fact that your models are painted makes you a better opponent than 50% of the player base.

CSM don't have an official thing like sub chapters, but that doesn't mean that there aren't any warbands out there doing their own thing that are splinter groups of the original legion. The black legion has at least three sub groups that are opposed to them and to each other, but they still share the same geneseed, training and legion afilliation as the rest of the black legion. So yea, don't worry about colours. Even khorne marked alpha legion models could be explained by trying to draw suspicion onto some khorne warband or something like that.

I have no issue with it personally. it would seem likely that come splinter legions might still use their old legion colors or not bother with repainting armor. I don't think khorne cares if your armor is red until the battle starts at which point any armor better be covered in blood

I would have no issue with it. It is still better than the people who don't paint anything. Also I honestly couldn't tell you what colour scheme most legions are supposed to be anyway.

Honestly everything they said. Its all personal preference. Chaos has been in the warp so long and splintered so many times that there are legion warbands that are no longer running around with the Warband lord still fight the same way. I have Black Legion Cyclopia Cabal that occasionally fight with my Death Guard and no one seems to care.

You have a painted (or mostly painted) army? Cool! I don't give two poops if it's not the "correct" color.

Now, if you really want to go the extra mile, write (or at least think up) some fluff for them, to "justify" their color scheme. It's certainly not necessary, but it's cool if there's a reason behind your color scheme other than "It looks cool". (Though "It looks cool" is perfectly valid.)

Btw another question how do I represent relic weapons? Would it just be the equivilant (eg power axe can be axe of blind fury)?
(For like tournament settings).

Yeah, a Power Axe should be fine. Maybe add some bling to it, to represent it's more than a regular axe.

It's Alpha Legion. Painting their armor differently to confuse their enemies is very much in their MO.

Back in the old Rogue Trader time, I have seen Space Wolves with a green and brown camouflage scheme. Because it would make freaking sense in the jungle warzone they were deployed in. Point of the matter is, your models, your choice. Of course, if I see Khorne Berzerker models painted red, there is little confusion. I had plans to start a Khornate warband, and paint them white, with blue shoulder pads (the original Legion colour scheme), there would be little confusion too. If I see basic Chaos Space Marines models with chainswords and bolt pistols, their power armour painted pink, I might assume a Slaaneshi warband. Not Khorne Berzerkers or Plague Marines. Information, you telling me what they are in the game, is key then. But once that is out of the way, they are still your models, and as such it is still your choice what colour to paint them.
