Could I use chainaxe models on chaos space marines? Simply just to look cool and fit more into a khorney/world eaters/blood disciple theme.
And secondly how do I get relic weapons? For example there are special pistols and melee weapons and items but how do I represent these? Do they even need representing other than switching out idk an axe model for another axe?

Of course you can, I even equipped some of my plague marines with chain axes, simply because I had Berzerkers in that battleforce-box. That being said, if you play Khorne you should make it clear that none/ or all of your chain axes count as actual chain axes, don't mix and say: Yeah, that guy actually has a chain axe but on this guy it's just for the looks...

For relics and artefacts do what you want, you are free to model what you want. If the axe of blind fury is an actual axe it's easier for your opponent of course, but usually you don't have that many atefacts on the field that it gets confusing. Personally I use that strange flamer arm from the possessed sprue as burning brand of scalathrax.

Mixing up your units with options from other kits is a great way to make your army unique to you. Head swaps, equipment pouches and weaponry can all make massive differences to the overall look to a unit or model.
And as far as Chaos is concerned I would say being non-uniform is almost mandatory.
As long as your opponent knows what he's facing all is good.

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples
