So it looks like Death Guard are getting an update and as I've just started a force I'm a bit concerned over what to do.

Is it worth building a Vectorium up now or waiting? Thousand Sons don't allow a Chaos Warband in their decurion so I don't want to build one for Death Guard then not be able to use them. Obviously Thousand Sons are a bit unique with the lore and Death Guard are closer to normal Chaos Marines so I'm hoping they will still work.

So wait or not?

Slightly miffed I just bought £100 of Plague Marines as well, which are definitely being replaced.

I literally bought £150 of minis for my Death Guard yesterday. This is sad-making. But maybe potentially exciting.

Just looking at the video, it looks like we're getting terminators, probably Montarion, and cultists. Maybe termintaors. But do we think that the main Nurgle models are Plague Marines or Nurgle CSM. I hope the former, as I bought CSM not Plague Marines.

I assume you kept the receipt?! All retailers including GW stores will allow you to return them if they are still in the shrink.

If I was building Death Guard I would definitely wait. Why would you buy old models 3 months before new ones come out?

The only reason I can think of is to have a unified look to your army.

Welp, my Death Guard are all FW kits.

So...um....

I'm actually pleasantly surprised to see the Mk III Plague Marines with helms that look SO VERY LIKE THE FW KIT.

My problem however is that I don't like all the tentacles and mutations on the base Plague Marines.

So for now I'll keep my army as is....

Possibly save up for the Cultists (Zombies).
Possibly get one of the new Plague Marine kits and a Possessed kit to mix and mash so I have some Possessed that match the rest of my army.

I spent 11 hours yesterday converting them into my command squads (the biker lord, 2x biker sorcerers, and my 5 aspiring champions) - the exact models that I would have wanted to convert from the new Plague Marines. I am seriously angry right now.

I used plastic glue. Any thoughts on how easy it may be for me to dismantle what I've done?

I did wonder why Forge World dispatched my order of Death Guard upgrades within an hour of paying for it, they aren't usually as fast.

I was planning on using the FW kits for Chosen and Mk3 for normal Death Guard but now I might use the FW ones as standard marines and the new kits for Chosen as they are a bit more blingy.

I just hope we can still run a Warband in the likely new decurion.

Plague Marines are quite ramshackle and inconsistent in their appearance, so mixing and matching kits is an option. I'm excited for the new kit because it'll make my squads even less uniform!

You should get 30k Death Guard instead so you can have epic grenade-launcher Terminators! #shamelessplug

(I'm trying to advance my comic conversation tags to the 21st century. [/shamelessplug] is a bit old-fashioned.)

More seriously I've seen pictures of what look like Plague Zombies, Plague Marines, and a scythe that may belong to the big man himself, but no Terminators or vehicles, so you could start on the non-infantry elements of your list and be reasonably confident they won't get replaced in this release. Plague Marines will probably still need Rhinos.

On the subject of formations the current Vectorium has the Chaos Warband as a Core choice alongside a Plague Marine formation, I can't imagine they'd take away the Chaos Warband. Grandfather Nurgle loves all, not just the sons of Barbarus cast adrift in the Warp on the march to Terra.

To be honest these models are still very nice so you haven't really lost out. If you only want to use the newest ranges then you always take a gamble buying from GW. And new Plague marines/Death guard have been rumoured for the last few months so it wasn't totally unexpected.
I'd offer to buy yours but have been picking them up from ebay at bargain prices (pre Traitor's Legion release) so have plenty.

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

This is the Death Guard. Even for filthy loyalist elements like mine our true nemesis is soap.

You're right. It was just the timing that got my mad. I was just getting back into 40k after over 10 years, so hadn't kept my finger on the pulse of rumours. Had a bad day yesterday, so cheered myself up by buying these miniatures, instead of on Monday as planned. And then the very next day ...

But you're right. I should just look forward to the conversion opportunities that I have with the new set!

Apart from codex's and rule books which are pretty much useless once out of date there's always value in models. Even if they're damn expensive!

I've just started building DG too... finished my twenty marines last weekend. Oops.

I just kitbashed with MkIII sprues, FW autocannons, shoulder pads and a few aspiring champion heads, and did a little green stuff here and there. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out:

They look great!

I don't think it's any biggy using old models, especially for an army like Death Guard, I wouldn't worry.. I use the 2nd and 3rd ed stuff in mine along with the newer kit and some conversions, it all seems to fit well. Like what nurgle5 says, the more ramshackle the better.

I HIGHLY doubt the supplement will negate their legions decurion. If anything, I would be more concerned that they simply copy paste it and simply add the new units. This being GW its entirely possible their new formations (if any) would be stand alone. The black legion already have such a formation that isn't in their decurion.
So yea I really wouldn't worry about the current warband going anywhere and even if they loose the warband in their decurion, there is still the traitor's hate warband.

You'd still be able to use the Traitor Legions decurion as well even if they changed it up.

There's precedent for that in the form of the SW Iron Priests and the Green Tide.

I think I'm going to go ahead as it could be a couple of months before the new releases arrive.

I'll stick with my MKIII / IV as Death Guard Chaos Marines and Havocs, Finecast/ Metal Plague Marines as themselves, FW upgrades as Chosen and terminators and will probably use the new models as Possessed or if they come with a new unit option, whatever that happens to be.

I have about 30 old metal Plague Marines.

Im thinking they can be the Marked CSM, and the new kit will be the actual Plague Marines or Chosen.
