After a hobby hiatus of around 8 or so years, I have decided to dive back in with an Imperial Guard army, the focus of which will be more on painting and modelling than any competitive aspirations (at time of writing, I'm not actually fully conversant with the 7th Ed rules, the last I played being I think 4th Ed)
The inspiration for this first force is going to be the Adeptus Arbites, along with Planetary Defence Force allies, who've come together to drive the scourge of Heresy from their planet.
I'm doing quite a bit of world-building at the same time as the modelling, whilst I develop the army's fluff, character backgrounds, and the reasons why these brave souls should stand shoulder to shoulder.
At the moment, It's a small force (~750pts), based around veteran squads with Grenadiers, which will be mounted in Chimeras, supported by Tempestus Scions, and a long range focused Command squad which will sit back taking out high-value targets (hopefully), but eventually I hope to expand to around 1500pts, containing everything except artillery.
Currently the list is:
Company Command Squad
Master of Ordnance
Officer of Fleet (to be built)
(Arbites Magistrate, accompanied by Mortiurge Team [Snipers], Naval Liaison, and Local Mine Guide)
2 x Veteran Squads
Chimeras (1 to be built)
(1 to be PDF Veterans, the other an Arbites Patrol Team)
Tempestus Scions
(Acting as an Arbites breaching team)
I've based a lot of their asthetic upon the original concept sketches, rather than the 2nd Ed models (although I did use these as inspiration for the magistrate, replacing the eagles with a ridge of hair in the classical style), simply to keep a bit of distiction in them, and so I can if I choose use a handful of the 2nd Ed models (or the necromunda Arbites) as stand-out squad leaders etc.
The only part of the modelling I've not done before painting, is the armour on the PDF. This will be heavy plate armour, cascadiing down to the knees like an apron, however I got slightly carried away last night whilst basecoating things and ended up painting everyone. I've decided that I'm just going to construct (out of plasticard) and paint the cuirasses seperately, and then pop the arms off and slip them on.
I also want to go back and re-sculpt the Mortiurge Triad to have skull-shaped helms, but this is going to require much practice first.
So far, the models/kits I've used are:
Cadian Shock Troops
Cadian Armored Fist Box
Militarum Tempestus Scions
Box of 5 Cadians
A handful of Catachan bitz bought for the Master of Ordnance.
Anyway, that's a lot of writing for a painting and modelling blog, so without further ado, on to the models, please comment, critique, question etc:
