Hey guys! So long time player, but unfortunately in recent years I have had to cut back on the hobby. Reasons we're mostly monetary, And limited time, But also with how fast the game has evolved since 5th ed (At least to me it seemed to move super fast, compared to how long 3rd and 4th edition we're around).

Any way, Always wanted to do a Tau force, and today I was extremely tempted to purchase the Codes, Start Collecting! Box and Ghostkeel suit. If it wasn't for me forgetting my cc pin I'd be drooling over the models now haha I already have a FW squad from the Kill Team book, so this seemed to round out a starter force pretty well.

I came from playing Deathguard, then after a bit of a stagnant period I'm now building up my Necrons. Argueably "tough" armies with MEQ stats. What sort of tactical changes should I expect to make?

In my head I'm envisioning a mostly static fire line, supported with harassment units (XV8s, Stealth suits etc), but I don't want to spam too much of one unit. I will probably build up to about 1500pts.

I can't see myself getting a riptide or that other big gribbly.

How well do ethereal works? Or I guess, HOW do they work lol I love the idea and look of them, but I've never really seen them in play.

Kroot also pique my interest, HOW well would a "meshed" Tau/Kroot army perform?

I guess in short, what units would be staples/key for the fireline, And which for the "Away teams" performing harassment roles?

Thanks for any and all tips

Best,
Ederan

Im by no means a competitive player but I do like to throw models on the board an watch them die in droves. Ethereals can be fun I like aun'shi he is i5 s5 t3 4++ with the ability to reroll failed saving throws. Aun'va is meh he just dies to bolter fire as he cant join a squad (but he does make ap 1,2 weapons pretty much useless to shoot at him T3 so he dies to assault cannons).

I like taking breachers in devilfish and droping them off then tankshockin for the luls.

Farsight enclaves is a fun way to play if you do that you have the option of an entire str 5 army: hq, troop, fast, elite, heavy so its kinda funny to be a shooting army where every slot can be str 5+ in cc. blind grenades on basic troops is always funny throw two in the shooting then two from an ic and troop in cc and eventually they will bring someone to ws 1 which is just great to hit on 3s with a firewarrior.. but then you need a 5 to wound but i digress.

drone sentry turrets are funny arm 11 deep striking plasma rifles that bolters cant hurt is a great distraction.

vespids can hammer of wrath and are ap 3 so that is funny aswell

sniper drones can tripple tap at 24 with an ethereal and they are relentless snipers soo that can be fun plus bs5 markerlights for 13pts with shroud.

drones are i4 and if you dont like ur burst cannons from ur crisis suits you can give them to ur drones and then they can really harass someone until they ultimately die for the greater good.

shadowsun in a full squad of broadsides just lul

i just got death from the skies and i am interested in the fortitude attack pattern with a swarm of hovering remora

darkstrider is fun just run him right up with some breachers and try and run away from the charging guys with pointy sticks after you put a few rounds in em

if you really wanna laugh an orca on a shyshield is always funny only problem is the damn ships like 13" long and about 6 or 7 wide but that just makes pivoting all the more exciting essentially a 12" disembark from center of the brick and 4 units can drop out of this death trap (rear armor 10 ouch) super heavy flyer; now finding one is the challenge. but just use a shoebox and paint it blue or yellow and its pretty much the same thing xD
