Dear fellow dakka enthusiasts,

thanks a lot for stopping by!
After years of silently enjoying your creative skills (and doubting my own), I have convinced myself to become a more active member of the Dakka community. I started painting Games Workshop miniatures when the LotR wargaming magazine series came out in Germany (if I remember correctly, it must have been in the early 2000s). I bought my first Warhammer figures some years later, steadily collecting a bunch of (poorly painted) stuff. However, when my university studies required me to move to Hamburg, I stopped painting - even though I still bought a miniature box now and then, always ( wrongly) telling myself that I would start again this time.

Much older, wiser and - hopefully - a lot more patient, I now want to really start afresh. My first aim is to properly paint a Blood Bowl starting kit. In order not to screw that up, I will hold a training camp for myself – painting around a dozen Orc / Gretchin miniatures my girlfriend put in an Advent calendar years ago. Shoutout to taleofpainters, my other favorite wargaming site - I will use their Night Goblin skin tutorial (http://taleofpainters.blogspot.com/2014/02/tutorial-how-to-paint-night-goblins.html) for a start. Let's see if I don't mess this up.

Thanks for reading my ramblings! I hope not to bore you with my stuff. Criticism and advice is always greatly appreciated!

Best, arsene

As I probably should have guessed when I started this thread, I failed miserably. I did not touch my painting gear in more than a year

However, last weekend, when nobody, least of all myself, was expecting it, I sat down with a few pots of green and finally started painting. And, lo and behold, I even am comparatively pleased with the results. Here's my first miniature in years, still pretty WIP:

Cheers, arsene

After just another hobby hiatus, the missus just gave me the Blood Bowl box set for my birthday!
Come Saturday, I find myself with a few hours to spare - and an old Ogre box that I picked up at a garage sale years ago. Long story short, I tried to convert one of the fellows into a possible addition to the Reikland Reavers. Pretty basic work, actually, converting a left arm (the hook-less fist) into a right arm, building shoulder pads from gut-plates and linking them with a few straps made out of green stuff. I also build a Reaver-style helmet head (with a crest that resembles an eagle but is actually made of one of those large ogre knives), but did not like it that much in the end, it gave me too much of a dark-lord-from-a-cheap-movie vibe.

I am planning to use the ogre as a test miniature for the Reavers colour scheme - the box sets actually puts me under a bit of pressure to get every miniature just right so I don't have regrets every time I play.

Feedback's greatly appreciated!

Best regards
Arsene
