The most recent Conqueror has taken my interest, but I wonder if it really does have a place.

So for 5 points less than the base cost of an Eradicator you get a Fast Leman Russ tank, with a S8 AP3 Small blast Heavy weapon, and co-axial stormbolter which if it hits the target first caused the cannon to be twin linked.

What suggestions do people have for how this could be used?

I'm thinking that Camo-Netting might not actually be a bad idea, because with 12" movement and additional 12" flat out you have the ability to get behind whatever cover exists.

It's so cheap, but is it cheap enough to compare favourably to the other variants?

Has anyone had success using one?

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

Its basically a cheaper LRBT that made its main gun small blast that is twin-linked 75% of the time.

They are my favorite Russ, the only one I seriously consider using on a regular basis besides the Beast Hunter Shell Command Vanquisher. For a total of 150 points you can deck it out with MM sponsons, a lascannon and a dozer blade. The fact that it is a fast vehicle is what makes it so good; it easily keeps pace with mechvets and Hellhounds, and can cruise up to 24" per turn to grab those objectives. Take it as a troops choice in an Armored Battle group to make it ob sec, with a Command Vanquisher for your HQ choice.

At long range you can go 12 and fire your main cannon (twin linked most of the time) and lascannon at full bs. At close range you can go 12" and unleash those multi-meltas or go 6 and unleash everything. Definitely one of the most competetive Russes, especially in maelstrom games. Oh and you can outpace many melee units in a pinch too.

A Hellhound + a Conqueror outfitted as above forms a very fast, highly armored assault unit that can deal vehicles and infantry.

Edit: And don't forget RAMMING SPEED for 12" range str 9 auto hits (with dozer blade). It is very satisfying to roar 12inches into a knights legs through his ion shields to take out that last hullpoint.

Note that it is NOT a fast vehicle by RAW. Only the IA:Vraks DKoK list gets fast LR Conquerors, everyone else still has the old rules (much like updating C:SM tactical squads doesn't change the rules for BA tactical squads). And in those rules it's just a normal vehicle, neither fast nor heavy, which is the worst possible position to be in. You don't have the mobility of a fast vehicle, and you don't have the ability to shoot all of your weapons while moving 6" like other LRBTs. That makes it a pretty terrible unit, and you should just take a regular LRBT.

Now, if you do accept that the new profile replaces all of the older ones, you get some neat tricks with the ABG list. As a troops unit it's a fast AV 14 obsec scoring threat, and if you take it as a HQ or commissar tank you have BS 4 multimelta and a lascannon that can move and shoot effectively.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
