Is the blood angels Citadel paint box a good base to start with for a Word Bearers scheme?

Pretty much, yeah. The WarhammerTV guide for Word Bearers is Blood Angels but just give them Black shoulder pads.

Hope that helps!

Those paints would be fine, but I like my Word Bearers pretty dark. So I would start from a black primer, work my way through the red paints, and maybe even give them a thinned Nuln Oil wash to get the right level of brightness.

I'd go Khorn red, with mephiston for the highlights. Closer to FW's scheme for 'em instead of GW's "lol blood angels" scheme

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

BA are really bright red. Even World Eaters aren't that bright, much less non-Khornate CSM like Word Bearers. Traditionally, Word Bearers lean away from the orangey reds of Khorne worshippers and toward maroons.

If I ever get around to doing word bearers, I think I'd start with rhinox hide, then doombull brown. I'd add orange to it to create highlights, and then use red glazes to bring out the red hues. I might have to do a tester soon, but I think that would be closer to the original 2nd ed scheme, which was much darker and meaner looking.
