With the upcoming Death Guard release, is it worth starting Chaos now with a SC! box, or should one wait until Papa N's legion erupts forth from the rumour mill? Would I be better served with the Chaos side of Dark Vengeance instead, mixing in plague cultists?

Death Guard are one of the strongest, if not the strongest in the Traitor Legions book. I would recommend getting that before buying models tbh.

Don't buy anything yet. Death Guard will be getting models and rules soon.

If you're really eager to start painting, i would buy DV. I'm a big fan of DV though.

I picked up a Dinobot in place of any of the SC! options and the marines+rhino combos. I want the visual theme to be consistent so decided to get the vehicle while I wait for the release

Always bet on Plague Marines. They're the only unit choice that has held up to the test of time in the Chaos Book (with Daemon Princes and Obliterators arguably coming in at a second).

Along with many here I'd highly recommend waiting for the new Death Guard release. I have a huge chaos army myself and I will be building an army mainly out of the new stuff.

I'm only sad that I already have 49 of the old plague marines (all in metal baby!) so there is very, very little point for me to buy any more.

I'm eagerly awaiting the release too, though gonna slow grow. Tempted to grab a push-fit box of cultists and CSM to get in on some Shadow Wars at the local GW, but equally want to again wait to do that with really sick (pun intended) looking nurgle models

I started a cult with a demagogue, a load of cultists, and a couple of space marines, based on the Black Crusade initial introductory scenario...

I have Nurgle Demon Prince, and a Chaos Spawn for the LOLZ.

I'll get to them eventually, but I like them as a small easy group to drop in on anyone who comes into the territory. Nothing says surprise then a load of cultists, and a space marine leading them. Between them, and the Genestealer cultists, you are going to have an interesting day....
