That's either very jerkish of him (if he knew better) or just him being wrong (if he legitimately didn't know, in which case, eh, mistakes happen).

But yeah, all Monstrous Creatures melee attacks are AP2.

To be precise, the attacks are AP2 because of smash, not because they are a monstrous creature. All monstrous creatures have smash, but you can also gain smash though other means, which in turn would make all close combat attacks of whoever gained smash AP2.
