"Horus Heresy" is a negative term, and I believe the traitor legions didn't see themselves as the bad guys, in fact they exalted Horus.

in that case, what do they call the Horus Heresy?

About the above quote, I don't know why the Iron Warriors hated Sanguinius though

I believe they simply call it the Long War, hence the VotLW trait

Most books where they call the war anything its "The Long War" as previously mentioned, and like mentioned its the reason for the rule Veterans of the Long War.

Its the Long War to them, because unlike for the Imperials where the Horus Heresy (and Scouring) were a war won long ago. For those VoTLW, the war never ended, they've been fighting it for the past 10k years. Though in various states, because for some the Heresy was only 100 years ago, where as for others they have been fighting it for thousands (thanks Warp shenanigans).

They may recognise it as part of the Long War, but a distinct event nonetheless.

as for the hatred of Sanguinis, I think it's simply that the three Primarchs mentioned are the most high profile. they're the "core" of the loyalists

It would be a distinct Campaign in the Long War, not necessarily viewed as its own War. Much like how each of the Black Crusades has been a distinct period. Or it could be like how the Horus Heresy as a War was made up of other wars, such as "The Solar War" and "The Shadow Crusade".

So it would be like The Isstvan Campaigns, The Shadow Crusade, The Solar War, right up to Black Crusades 1-13.

There was a recent book, Red Tithe, where one of the Night Lords is thinking to himself about recent Renegades and how they don't fight the Long War, but their own campaigns. So there are several conflicts occurring at the same time, all of them against the same foe, but not necessarily a part of the Long War.

Then if the Heresy is something seperate from the Long War, they probably would refer to it as The Rebellion or something, they've not really had them call it anything. Hence my inclusion of it in the Long War. Prelude to The Long War.

Perhaps. I wish GW would come up with a cool-sounding name for the Traitors to call it. If you could name it, what would you name it?

That's something I'd have to think on. Though I kinda imagine that some of the Legions would have different names for it.

Yeah, the CSM codex has a timeline that begins at the HH, the timeline is called the Long War, VOTLW can be used to represent anyone who fought in the Long War for a long time (hence why Huron has the rule)

That sounds so bureaucratic. I love how Eugen Temba warns Horus as he's dying, and he says the Imperium will turn into a massive bureaucracy lol. Really undercuts the tragedy.

I've seen that timeline in the 6E codex. But it starts with the Great Crusade, then the HH, and then "the Long War Begins".

probably depends on the legion.

Word Bearers or Emperor's Children might call it the Awakening for different reasons

Tsons and Nighlords might call it the Betrayal(although most Tsons dont speak)

Ditto Deathguard and the not speaking much

I really like this one. Specifically for the Thousand Sons - Technically, the Imperium struck the first blow. And for the civil war leanings.

I remember one of the HH books having a conversation about how the traitors don't like being called that, they thought they were in the right, 10kk years later I cant imagine that illusion still holds
