For those who have played the game or played necromunda / 2nd edition how do you guys handle the following multi lv terrain issues.

What difficulty is it to move up a lv in the regular GW ruin scenario, and when there is a ladder.
Are you in base contact if you are above each other or do you have to be in base contact.
How do template and blast template weapons work in multi lv terrain.

Generally speaking, the old rules used to allow normal movement up/down ladders. They had rules for climbing/dropping various routes if you didn't have a ladder handy.

Base contact is base contact. If you're 3" below someone...you're not in base-contact. Mordheim used to have rules for basically doing a diving charge (straight jumping on someone from above) but if you missed you'd hurt yourself as you crashed to the ground.

Template weapons are always a silly construct with that kind of terrain. Personally I'd simply measure the template horizontal and vertical. Makes it easiest. Basically a grenade explodes in a sphere instead of a disk. I'm sure SWA has rules on this. GW goes back and forth on this kind of thing with FAQs.

Are you asking for 40k? Because all these questions are pretty straight forward in the BRB or have a FAQ.

shadow wars: Armageddon does not use 7th 40k rules
It does have rules for falling and jumping so that is covered. It even does have rules for falling off cliffs when you are shot down. But I can't find any of the typical multi lv terrain rules.
This is what I went with.

Ladders = open terrain.
No ladder = 1/2 difficult -> this had some serious implications. Moving up suddenly becomes a 6" move and your max run and charge move is 8". As a result of this we changed the terrain to include a lot of bridges in the second game.
You need to be in base to attack -> Not happy with this one since the rules mention a +1 combat bonus for being on high ground. but it seems odd to strike trough floors.
Templates just hit the lv you point them at. 5th style

7th does make no sense at all in a game where multi lv terrain is the norm. Flaming 5+ lv's of terrain just feels off. Others went with just rotating the template but this doesn't feel practical at all due to floors being in the way.

Does anyone know how they ruled it in the WD battle report ?

With movement when I have played Necro in the past using cities of death terrain, we house rules it that there are ladders in place where there is a hatch floor tile

Otherwise with things like flamers as it is the old ruleset while it can be annoying to hit a guy on a higher level you had to be able to angle the flamer template to reach it. (do remember it isn't the current ruleset)

and we also played it that blats weapons could only effect the level targeted

Similar rules are now in shadowar.

In Shadow War, you can't climb a vertical surface over 2" tall without acces to a ladder. Ladders are normal movement.

Is there any benefit to being on elevated terrain? the batreps I've seen, it seemed like falling off when you're hit is a real danger... so what is the advantage to being higher up?

For those who have played the game or played necromunda / 2nd edition how do you guys handle the following multi lv terrain issues.

What difficulty is it to move up a lv in the regular GW ruin scenario, and when there is a ladder.

No issue. You have an exit/ Entry point, you move up the ladder. Model ladder in the point. Some people have a open hole, some people make a trap door.

Are you in base contact if you are above each other or do you have to be in base contact.

Base to base contact means that. The model needs to be touching each other. If you end up halfway up or down a ladder, you can Gentleman's agreement on it, or give a pass, and end the turn up or down. Usually, when we did it, the guy could not go up the ladder if they were to end up on the ladder. You just left them on the base of the ladder.

How do template and blast template weapons work in multi lv terrain.

You template the weapon on the target, and the template moved, or didn't. If it moved off of the walkway, or terrain level, it just moved. You put it to the next level down, or all the way to the ground floor. The risk of falling, or blowing up the walkway is always there.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.
