Seeing as I had the models, I figured I'd try a farsight/shadowsun bomb for my local league. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated. Flamer suit and Crisis Bomb go in reserves.

I'd go big or go home. Either max out the bomb or play Tau differently. You invest so many points in the requisite HQs to provide resilience and Hit and Run on I5 that you need to max it out to have a chance at earning back your down payment.

Other than that, I'd deploy the bomb against anything that wasn't a mean alpha strike list. Again, to earn your keep with a bomb you have to be on the table from the jump. Just make Shadowsun your warlord for the 3D6 assault jump.

So you figure drop Farsight and take his points in suits in the unit?

If I ran a bomb, which I haven't in many years, I would run it this way:

Enclaves CAD

Shadowsun
Commander: MSS, CCN, PENchip, Drone Controller

9 Crisis: 10 CIB, 8 Fusion Blasters, 9 Target Locks-
14 Marker Drones
1 Crisis

Stormsurge: PBC, AFP, Shields, ATS, EWO

Canoptek Harvest

6 Wraiths, 4 Coils
3 Scarabs
Spyder

Null Zone Taskforce

5 Sisters of Silence, Rhino

Total: 1850

The bomb is very flawed for competitive play so to have a shot you need to mitigate its considerable vulnerabilities. Since you don't have Farsight (because he sucks now), and therefore you don't have hit and run, you need a reliable tarpit/speedbump that can stay ahead of the bomb and keep scary things tied up long enough for the rest of your list to table the rest of your opponent's. Enter the harvest.

The Sisters are cheaper than the Cullexus and do the job about as well. And if 8th brings back assault out of rhinos, they'll get even better.

The Surge is there because you need a second damage dealer, and because there are certain targets that only D will stop. He adds a second combat threat as well.
