I'm trying to assemble a 2nd edition Chaos Space Marine army and now I'm just lacking some Fast Attack Choices (got enough heavy support, elites, troops and HQ). I dislike the metal raptors so I was thinking about adding some bikers. Problem is I can't seem to find any bikers older than the current ones, but the current ones have the modern CSM design rather than the goofier one from 2nd edition.

I have the first 3rd ed codex and they have a picture of some bikers, but it looks like they were converted from plastic loyalist marine bikers. Was there a biker set earlier than the current one or is the current set of Chaos Bikers the first ever dedicated set made for them?

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

The above is the 2nd edition kit. I don't recall there being any Chaos bikers prior to that.

Yep. This is the earliest release of a CSM biker. I have one but never saw the schematic before.

Well Raptors were not available in 2nd Edition so they would be out anyway, you could take normal csm marines with jump packs but they cost a fortune in points compared to normal assault marines, fluff stated CSM didn't bother looking after the mechanisms for such gear so they became obsolete.

Your options apart from bikes if building a 2nd edition chaos force for something fast would be Daemons (Fleshhounds, Daemonettes riding Steeds or Flamers of Tzeentch) and maybe a Blood Slaughterer vehicle if you can find the datafax and model, that is it from a strictly 2nd edition force.

I should clarify that I'm building an army with 2nd edition models but 3rd edition rules. I forgot to mention that. There are daemons too but I'm trying to keep it a strictly CSM force.

Yep, those came out a short while after the plastic Marine Bikers, which were late 90's (toward the end of 2nd ed. really). I have the launch White Dwarf for the bikers - around the 190's-200's before they renumbered.

Very common Chaos Space Marine approach to some kits back then (i.e. Imperial kit + metal bits = Chaos).

Since no one I know here even knew they existed, I caved and bought some old Batwing Raptors. At least I got em cheap (3-4 bucks a pop)
