Hey all

I'm a returning player to 40k and want to make sure I have understood this right. Is this legal:

My army consists of the skyhammer annihilation force and blade wing assault brotherhood using raven guard and therefore the rules listed on page 100 of angels of death.

Have I got this right? Is this a legal (albeit unbound) army??

Why would it be Unbound? You are using two detachments without any units outside of a detachment.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

No idea why I put unbound...

My question is really can I use the raven guard rules with these detachments?

I think I can but somethings making me doubt myself..

I see no reason why not. There is no restrictions on either formations from being from the Raven Guard, and as long as they all have the Raven Guard Chapter Tactics then it's legal.

I know it may seem like it's too good to be true but eh, that's what things are in the age of formations and detachments.

It's perfectly RAW to use the AOD Formations with any Faction SM chapter (tactics). Only the separate Codices like BA, SW, GK etc have no claim to AoD goodies. Also, the meta-formations are chapter specific, but the individual formations are not - even when clearly themed after the one or other SM chapter.

Mind you though, that the Skyhammer formation is probably the worst offender in unfair formations that should never have been published. So you may want to be careful what or whom you field it against.

Skyhammer isn't as unfair now, after most other factions got some similar flavours of cheese of their own. However it is still looked down upon because it requires far less effort to run it (it basically erases the drawbacks of both of those units) effectively as compared to say, Infernal Tetrad, buffmander or most other powerful combos.

Who is complaining about the Skyhammer Annihilation Force? Is this the same group of players complaining about flyers and super heavy vehicles?

These things are part of the game now and have been for quite some time. Perfectly legitimate and fair.

That's exactly what I meant - check what you play against. If you play against a power list, fine. If you play Skyhammer to stomp some mid or low power list into the ground faster, you'll be killing the fun for both players.

Funny enough, in my local meta no, it's not the same people. Also, I personally rather have flyers and superheavies on my side or on the other side than broken formations like skyhammer. Skyhammer is a hack job done quickly on request of the marketing department without any consideration to game impact.

40k is inherently unbalanced and unfair. Balancing is just not a concern in the game design, therefore each match-up - except for mirror-lists - will be unfair and/or unbalanced - only how unbalanced is the question. What matters though, is our perspecive on that as players - what do we enjoy playing more? I don't enjoy being tabled in turn 2 or 3 anymore than I enjoy tabling someone early. I do enjoy a close match, with the outcome in question until later in the game.

Skyhammer Annihilation Force isn't that good and it most certainly is not broken.

If you are losing to it, then you need to make less fluffy decisions in your list building and play style and more competitive choices in your list building and play style.

Expect to lose if you don't adjust to an evolving meta.

Maybe you should quit with your personal attacks and actually weigh in on the rule?
Oh wait, you didn't even address his question.
Good thing some kind people already answered it.

Now, now Col.
You might want to review Tenet #5.

I think you should attend to the shortcomings of your argument rather than making a personal attack.

Go ahead. You're the one who got off topic to whine about what people were posting. And then insult them.

My question's been answered thanks all.

I think a mod can close this thread before someone hires a hit man!

Haha, I for one don't get that worked up!
Have fun, and purge everything that doesn't proudly display imperial iconography!
