Hello everyone, as the title says im asking what people find are the best colours and painting techniques (like if you layer grey underneath the green or w/e) for painting Sons of Horus without an airbrush, and where to get said paints if they are not GW ?
Thanks everyone

This is my recipe, using non-GW paint (because I don't like GW paints). I do like their washes, and use pretty much only Nuln Oil, and Seraphim Sepia. However, I've recently started using Secret Weapon Miniatures Washes and... WOW! So much better. VMA = Vallejo Model Air, VGC = Vallejo Game Color, P3 = Privateer Press P3 Paint. I typically use my airbrush for the black primer, base coat in grey, and the first coat of green. After that, it's all brush work. You could easily rattle can the primer, and then paint the model with a brush. I just used my airbrush to speed things up. The base coat of grey is important. If you use the green over a white base, it's too light, and if you use it over black, it's too dark. A note about the blacks: I use a drop or two of P3 Greatcoat Grey in my blacks so that it's not a "true" black.
Undercoat/Primer black (I use Vallejo airbrush primer and P3 Black Primer)
Base coat: Vallejo Game Color Cold Grey 72.750
Base coat: VGC Scurvy Green 72.027
Shade: Nuln Oil
Seen it, i dont think the green is quite right in that one... for my liking anyway.
@Tamwulf do you have any photos of your models to show the colours off ? thanks

Check out this link to my gallery. This guy was a test model/WiP, so I haven't added decals, finished the base, or really cleaned him up but its "table top standard".
