I am considering fussing around with either transfers or etched brass for my Ravenwing army, but I don't quite get how the markings are supposed to go.

The codex says that normal bike squads are numbered 1-6, but that's all of the definite guidance it gives. It shows a Ravenwing Command Champion with a "2" on his shoulder, but it's not clear why.

Anyone know how the command squad and Black Knight squads are supposed to be marked, and why? Also, can anyone point me to a sheet of transfers or brass with a bunch of numbers on it?

Champion of the 2nd. Company (Ravenwing) in the command company. also remember everyone has their own designs and such.
