I am intrigued by the 40mm bases for Brom's Darkage game. I want to put them on my new deathwing army. They seem to give the model a nice finish that the GW bases cannot seem to touch.

Question is: Will I be banned from sanctioned play if I base my models in something other than "GW brand bases"?

There has been precedence not to disqualify people from using bases that are not made by GW. i.e. homemade bases.

What say you?

A new day, a new time zone.

The only rules that exist concerning bases are size, so as long as that's a mostly GW model on that base, you'll be okay.

As long as they are equal or greater in size, within reason, you're probably never going to have a problem.

I don't want to start another topic about this so I'll ask here. GW rules say that you can't put units on smaller bases. so what kind of bases should I use for Chaos Hounds in a LatD army? do I have to put Chaos Terminators on bigger bases, now that the new SM Termies use them? Eldar Jetbikes have large flying bases, altough the model is way smaller than the size of the base. can I put them on large roundbases? it looks better.

i think it was on another topic here but terminators and all that can only be put on bases they are given with or bigger.
so basically, your chaos termis can still be used on small infantry bases -without- beeing counted as cheating or some sort of tricks.(although it is usefull to still have to small ones cause you can drop more termis around one that with the 40mm basing)

Size matters. I think that's it.

That allows people to get as artsy as tehy want with the bases...

The rules on page 6 are quite clear (to most of us anyway) as to what size base a model should go on:

Games Workshop miniatures are usually supplied with a base and this should be viewed as the minimum size base they can be mounted on...

So that means larger should be alright, but smaller isn't.

It seems to me that for the most part, any advantages/disadvantages of a different base size would cancel each other out.

i'd say your fine with non-GW ones so long as they are the same size or a tad bigger than the GW ones

not so sure about different shapes of bases- what are people's take on this?
I mean fantasy bases vs 40k ones (in other words do i have to rebase my zombies to use them?)
What about models without bases? (old IG heavy weapons etc...)

well, Fantasy infanty bases are smaller than 40 infantry bases and with the square format you could send a lot of them into CC.
btw. I just put my old Chaos Terminators on bigger bases. it just looks better.
