Hey everyone!

So I'm making a space Wolves force and I had some questions a out how to prime the new Wolves! I've been reading some confusing and conflicting articles and forums about how to paint them. I want a darker blue gray but I also want to know what primer i should use. I have been reading that the games work shop spray paint is a base coat and not a primer now? Especially for the fang spray paint is this true?

Are you looking for a brand primer or color?
I prime my Space Wolves white, then apply coats of The Fang and Russ Grey or simply 2 layers of Russ Grey. If you want to go dark blue scheme I guess your coat should be black.

I guess my main question is is the fang useable as a primer? Or like you were saying should I primer white or black first? Because that spray paint is a basecoat and not a primer?

Primer or simple spray paint is a topic that can grow into a widespread discussion. I don't want to confuse you anymore so I will just suggest the below:

Yes it is usable as a "primer" if you buy it as spray can:

Army Painter have alternative to this.

GW spray can is not exactly primer but it will bind to the plastic well and it will create a friendly surface to your paints.
If you decide to just base coat with the pot GW paint using brush It will be really bad and it my peel off if there is no primer below. You can either buy primer or just spray paint and cover the mini before layering the Fang

I forgot it was a potted paint as well. I was referring to the spray van version and whether that was useable as a primer! I read in a couple other sites that even though it's a spray, it's still just the paint from the pot in spray form and shouldn't be used as a primer. Read the opposite elsewhere.

That was helpful though, thank you.

Just look up to some random Duncan Rhodes tutorials in Warhammer TV. He is almost always using Chaos Black spray paint, which is considered to be only paint and not a primer to cover the minis and the results are total showcase. I suggest doing this instead of investing in primer cans or bottles that have different learning curve and ruin your models.

Edit: A lot of people are suggesting just to buy Krylon or RustOSoleum as cheaper options ti GW cans. I don't have any of these in my country, so I substitute them with random hardware spray cans when I am too lazy to use my airbrush.

Use Army Painter Wolf Grey color primer

Maybe a quick coat of Krylon/store bought black or gray primer, followed by Wolf Grey spray? That gives a real good coat for painting, should deepen the color, and will also save you expensive paint in the long run.

For plastic minis, you don't need a primer. You can just use a colour spray can
