Are they worth it? I'm thinking of picking up the tyranid one but would it be better to get them from normal boxes of stuff?

If you mean the bundles...no, they're not discounted and you end up with far too many figures you won't use if you're just going to play SWA.

God no. What Elbows said. Buy your own stuff, convert them to make gun-beasts/commanders/newborns.

Keep in mind that many of the Elite units can only be purchased with the SWA currency earned from playing games. Most of your army will consist of models from a single unit box, with maybe one or two additional choices from another. Points go fast though, so make sure you take a look at the GW pages that were released for the Tyranid army.

I think it would be best to just get the Trooper unit and then grab whatever Special Operatives you want to run off eBay.
