Hey guys,
So I played against my mate who plays Dark Angels today and I realised something - The sorts of lists they bring almost require me to do one or both of two things: Bring lots of Melta and/or High Strength weapons; and Bring Terminators (and lots of them). These things seem to be among the relatively few things I can field that will have any effect on their army, so with that in mind, I created the following list:
Combined Arms Detachment [ Iron Hands ] ( 1,530 Points )
Librarian [ Warlord, 170 Points ]
-- Mastery Level 2
-- Shield Eternal
-- Terminator Armour
Librarian [ 120 Points ]
-- Mastery Level 2
-- Terminator Armour
Tactical Squad [ 105 Points ]
-- Grav-Cannon w/ Grav-Amps
Rhino [ 35 Points ]
Tactical Squad [ 105 Points ]
-- Grav-Cannon w/ Grav-Amps
Rhino [ 35 Points ]
Terminator Assault Squad [ 240 Points ]
-- 1x Additional Terminator
-- 3x Thunder Hammer + Storm Shield Combos
Land Raider Crusader [ 260 Points ]
-- Multi-Melta
Terminator Assault Squad [ 240 Points ]
-- 1x Additional Terminator
-- 3x Thunder Hammer + Storm Shield Combos
Land Raider Crusader [ 260 Points ]
-- Multi-Melta
Skyhammer Annihilation Force [ Black Templars ] ( 930 Points )
Devastator Squad [ 185 Points ] ( Combat Squads )
-- 5x Additional Space Marines
-- Armorium Cherub
-- 4x Multi-Metlas
Drop Pod [ 35 Points ]
Devastator Squad [ 185 Points ] ( Combat Squads )
-- 5x Additional Space Marines
-- Armorium Cherub
-- 4x Grav-Cannons w/ Grav-Amps
Drop Pod [ 35 Points ]
Assault Squad [ 195 Points ]
-- 5x Additional Space Marines
-- Veteran Sergeant
-- Power Sword
-- 10x Jump Packs
Assault Squad [ 195 Points ]
-- 5x Additional Space Marines
-- Veteran Sergeant
-- Power Sword
-- 10x Jump Packs
So here's what I'm thinking with this list:
Both of the Librarians roll on Biomancy with the hopes of getting 'Endurance'. Even if neither get 'Endurance', the Biomancy abilities are pretty damn strong in the context of this list since I'll be running one Librarian with each of the Terminator Assault Squads. That way, the Terminators will have at the very least a 2+ Armour, 5+ Invulnerable, and a 6+ FNP. If either get 'Endurance', then that squad will have the potential to get a 3+ FNP instead. Then there's the Shield Eternal on my Warlord, which will also help when making DTW rolls, especially if the targets if both Terminator Assault Squads are relatively close. So the Librarians, Terminators, and Land Raiders are all there to be pretty tough Deathstars (with 3x Pairs of Lightning Claws per squad to help deal with any Instant Death threats that will - in all likelihood - negate both my 2+ Armour Saves and FNP Saves). As for the two Tactical Squads and their Rhinos, their job will to either harass the enemy and be annoying in general because Grav, or to take Objectives (hopefully using their Grav to either deter or severely damage potential contestants).
As for the Skyhammer Annihilation Force, both Devastator Squads will be Combat Squaded in such a way as to have two Five-Man Squads of Bolters in order to fulfill the primary purpose of utilising both the Suppressing Fusillade and Leave No Survivors Special Rules. The Devastator Sergeants and the four Heavy weapons of each Devastator Squad will form their own Combat Squads and proceed to target high-value targets. If possible, their Drop Pods will also be aimed at Objective Markers in order to make life for my opponent that much more difficult. Ass for the Assault Squads, they will be attempting to just kick the ass of any infantry that the Bolter Squads and themselves can target and charge (since they won't be good at much else). I considered trying to rearrange some points to put in some Teleport Homers and bring this formation down in Turn 2, but that seems just as much of a risk as bringing them down Turn 1 without Teleport Homers on the field (which is what I plan to do) since it's highly dependent on positioning and the spread of my opponent's army.
I'm also torn between giving the Skyhammer Annihilation Force the Iron Hands Chapter Tactics and giving it the Black Templars Chapter Tactics. I'm leaning towards Iron Hands simply because the 6+ FNP combined with the fact that the Special Rules for the Formation almost entirely negate the benefits that the Assault Squads gain from having Black Templars Chapter Tactics.
What are your thoughts?
Cheers
