With the local club looking to expand beyond the small starter league, it's coming time for me to start considering the expansion of my own small starter Nurgle force. One avenue that I've begun to strongly consider is a path including big daddy Archaon himself. He's got a cool model, and I'm a big fan of the Varanguard as well, even if they are a bit overcosted.
So here's the list that's begun gestating in my head lately:
Heroes
Archaon the Everchosen (700) - General
Harbringer of Decay (140)
Gutrot Spume (120)
Lord of Slaanesh on Daemonic Mount (140)
Units
Chaos Marauders (Nurgle)*10 (60) (Battleline)
Chaos Marauders (Nurgle)*10 (60) (Battleline)
Chaos Marauders (Nurgle)*10 (60) (Battleline)
Blightkings*5 (180)
Blightkings*5 (180)
Varanguard*3 (360)
Archaon and his Vanarguard are pretty self explanatory. Meaty, mobile, hard hitting combat monsters that kill just about everything they touch. The Slaanesh Lord would mostly be a buff slave for them, allowing multiple pile-in shenanigans. All three units essentially functioning as the first 'core' to a two-core army.
Chaos Marauders fill arbitrary Battleline tax (because someone had the bright idea of making Nurgle the only god who's mortal infantry isn't a standard battleline), while also acting as moderately survivable meatwalls and objective holders.
The Harbringer, Spume, and his Blightkings form the second 'core' of the army. Durable and lethal, they can march up the table and punch well above their weight, especially with the more mobile units around to nullify scarier threats. Spume is notable for being one of the most ridiculously point-efficient beatstick heroes in the game in my experience, with his ability to restrict enemy attacks and inflict hefty damage on his own making him a fantastically effective hero/monster-killer and bodyguard for the Harbringer.
Thoughts on the loadout?
