I'm a tau player, and being new to the hobby I wound up making mistakes... like buying 40 or so fire warriors before realizing they're pretty worthless compared to the almighty battlesuits, or buying 20 pathfinders only to find out that drones have them beat in every regard for markerlights... the list goes on.

As I'm looking to maybe start collecting white scars in the future, I'd like to avoid such mistakes this time around. So I'm asking anyone knowledgeable about space marines: if I wanted to collect a scars army, what units should I be getting? Bikes are a given, but anything else?

Well before you are even out of the gate you making a mistake because GW just confirmed yesterday that the new edition is going to make all the previous codexes obsolete. So literally anything you buy can become useless in like 2 months from now

Yeah, honestly just buy the models you like, or wait 2 months.
