I was trying to magnetize some Stormcast Eternals using hot glue for a metallic storage bin but the magnets pulled out of the bases. What, if anything, is recommended to that will make a strong enough bond to keep the plastic and the magnets together?

Superglue has always worked for me. How strong are the magnets?

Strong enough to pull out of dried hot glue. They are fairly strong. I have some super glue I'll test out.

^^ That's the big question.

Some magnets are so powerful, they will cause the superglue bond to shear (and it shears easily enough as it is) because you have to twist them to separate them and that exposes the main weakness superglue has. Epoxy can work better for adhering them, and allow you to put a thin skin OVER them.

I've found that putting a barrier of some kind between the magnet and the thing they stick to to be a better option (magnets grab REALLY well, when it's them up against it, but even a sheet-of-paper thickness of material will break that attraction just enough. They still hold fine, but they are easier to separate).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

I use superglue, which has always held even for my big 'nid monsters.

I've heard good things about putting a tiny square of tissue in between the surfaces when you use superglue.

JB weld or any 2 part epoxy would also work.

Superglue. If you are using magnets strong enough to pull of hot glue, they going to strong enough where you pull figures off their bases.

Superglue and a really tight fitting countersink has worked for me so far.
Made the conversion two years ago, been mounting and removing the parts plenty of times and everything still fits like a charm.

Also, don't go overboard on the strength of the magnets.

Id use epoxy or even build them up with green stuff after superglue or use prestik/blutac lathered in superglue, to add extra area to accommodate fro the shear stress.

I've had great success with Liquid Nails because it's strong, cheap, and available at almost any hardware store. Make sure you wear gloves because it's not water soluble and will stick to everything.

I'm magnetizing by filling with green stuff, althou I am not sure if there is room enough to do it on infantry.

I used to do that with all my guard.

the trick i found worked best was to get a metal ruler like that off a combination square and cover it with packing tape.

then place the magnets on the metal, stick a ball of greenstuff on top of it then press down the model with the base directly on it, then use cheap spring clamps to clamp the base to the ruler till it cures.

you can get a lot of them done that way.
