Been Around the Block

Hi,

I'm going to the Throne of Skulls Gathering Storm tournament in June at Warhammer World, an event that appeals because its billed as "a non-competitive gaming event for anyone who wants to play fun games of Warhammer 40,000 set during The Gathering Storm." I'm definitely not after a power army and probably don't have enough experience to play one effectively. I would though like to make sure it won't be wiped out on Turn 1!

Given the fall of Cadia, I thought an Imperial Guard army would be a good choice. I've included traditional guard infantry squads, 3 x Leman Russ, plus some of the fun abhuman Elite choices. Thoughts and feedback welcome.

Looks like a fun, fluffy list. Two items of feedback:

-You do lack mobility. Consider tossing in some more Chimeras, outflanking sentinels, Hellhounds, Valkyries or what have you so that you can cap objectives more effectively. The only mobile unit you have is your vet squad.
-Add a priest or commie to your ogryns. Back in 2015 I brought ogryns to a bunch of tournaments. They are a fun unit but they really need either a priests’ zealot rule or a commies stubborn/execution rule to keep em in the line.

As you know, you took a lot of sub-par units and upgrades (well pretty much everything in our codex except for wyverns is sub-par these days). But don't worry. I suspect that these sub-par choices (things like the heavy bolter heavy weapons squad, dismounted CCS, heavy weapon in a mechanized vet squad, hull and sponson weapons on ordnance tanks, and tons of wargear on your command squad) are a great fit for a casual, fluffy tournament.

Have fun!
