First attempt at a face, absolute disaster. I used the citadel s brush, but it's still not thin enough. What are the tools you guys use? Please advise.

Utilizing Careful Highlighting

Broken picture link. That said, I usually carefully do the eyes by painting iris/pupil (black and/or colored bits), then doing the base color of the skin, using the side of the brush carefully edging up to them to clean up any slop. If its messy on the sdie away from the eye, you're painting the whole face anyways. I then wash it, and if I'm feeling really ambitious, come back with a small brush to do highlights.

Here is my fast, cheat way to do perfect faces:

1. Flesh tone base (just a bit lighter than you want the finished color)
2. Flesh wash (this can go fairly dark, but experiment and some washes can be thinned out to get the perfect shade tone)
3. Dry brush light flesh (either the original flesh or mixed with a bit of white)
4. THINNED white for eyes (you want it thin so it is not SO white and it also does not glob)
5. Hit the pupil with a extra fine black marker (cheating, I know, but you get perfect control and a perfect dot)

Done and perfect!! However, much better results can be seen with laborious efforts with layers and multiple washes. I just use the easy route 'cuz I want them to look nice and get done quick.

It's not the brush, it was your first attempt. Keep practicing, and you will get better. You might want to look into different methods of getting a good point on your brush, but going out and buying a different one won't make you a better painter. Practice will .
