i was thinking of some sort of warp shenanigans for my pet renegade warband, like a loyalist techpriest hittin up an iron hands buddy to come and check out suspicious activity aboard an ark mechanicus sometime in the heresy and they get stasised somehow and are reborn so to speak due to heretek fiddling after the ship has been fused into a spacehulk

Just collect Iron Hands... if you really feel like being retro buy some older MK sets, it's lore now that some chapters actually continue to manufactor the older MK's just in small amount.

There really isn't any point of such elaborate stories to justify something like that, it comes across as too far fetched and not taken seriously.

Unless he plans to use 30k rules as well which involves bit more fluff justification as they would not just have different armour but different combat style

its more of a fluff question, im tryin to have very few marines survive the stasis and most of the army is going to be the scavvy, scaly, mutant rabble descendants of the iron hands ships serfs relatively nearby in the hulk

Or play Chaos and don't use Daemons and don't paint them up as super Chaos-y.

Beging chaos is obviously the best bet. They just didn't bother adding spikes.

Warp storms seem a solid second choice. Enter warp in 30k, leave warp in 40k, continue kicking chaos butt. People they talk to for too long meet unfortunate deaths at the hands of ork snipers so they don't get too close to other loyalists.

Reskinned legion of the damned are another bet. Resembling a lost unit of space marines with a documented history but are they ghosts or emperor daemons who knows.

Stasis isn't too feasible since while the technology exists, it's mainly used to preserve the greatest of heroes or used by foul xenos. Presumably needs to be maintained over the millennia.

Yep, a warp storm is an excellent way (granted a nice excuse) to place 30K marines damn near anywhere. Heck GW even used Trazyn or whatever his name is as an excuse to throw 30K minis on the tabletop. Plenty of nonsensical ways to justify it.

Heck with the large warp rift or whatever, who's to say a bunch of warp-trapped stuff wasn't released into current space? Go nuts.

DA Fallen are time travelers, so 30k Fallen should be popping out of the warp here and there.

i guess the main kicker would be when the irons hands are caught in the archaeotech warp derived stasis field device thingy at the heart of the ark it only preserves the organic bits, leaving piles of bionics and implants scattered around the floor. therefore on their rematierialization maybe 20 or so survive out of like a couple hundredish
