Hey all need some suggestions if you can think of any.

Im looking to make some tattered pirate sails for a miniature and was hoping for some ideas. Pre made ones would be awesome. I would like the sails to be completely black.

Some very dark moss that's in a roll that i can cut would also be something I'm interested it.

Think of a Pirates of the Caribbean Black Pearl vibe.

cut some out of plasticard and make 'holes' etc (maybe a very light pass over with a lighter for instance)

Otherwise I'd say something like cheesecloth, tease some threads etc out. then coat it in PVA/Water to stiffen and preserve the shape.

Just off top of my head, all I can think of

Depending on the scale you could go get some actual woven cloth tatter them and use pva to fix the shape while on a mold (use cellophane on like a tube or mold some clay into the shape you want then place the cloth on top of it while drenched in glue.

I was thinking of cheese cloth too, I would just need to paint it black.

Even easier, just get some black tissue paper (you should be able to source some in a craft store easily enough) and soak that in watered-down PVA, then drape that over whatever structure you need. Once it's dry, give it a quick drybrush with a light grey and you're sorted.
