I've been painting a Nurgle army and would like to base them soon, but I wanted to get some opinions first. I intend to collect models from each demon lord and in some lists mix them together; Nurgle and tzeentch in perfect harmony.

My question is do I base each sub faction uniquely, Nurgle swamp, korne lava, etc., or base the entire demon army the same? What I'm worried about is the army looking out of place when sub factions are on the field together.

The same. God specific bases are fine, but harmony between models in the army is better.

Could go with a central theme and touches of each god.
Example:
City streets with toxic waste for Nurgle.
City streets with warpflame for Tzeench.
City streets covered in blood for Khorne.
City streets covered in carnivorous flowers for Slaneesh.

When was there animosity towards daemonic things?

I did mine all on snow. This was partly because I started playing them in Fantasy/40k at the same time.
in the old Warhammer world Chaos invades from the north as that is where the polar gates collapsed and in 40k, when Daemons invade realspace, the Warp storm does odd things like draining the energy (heat) out of the very air itself, thus turning moisture into snow.
