So I love the new GW terrain for SWA, but it's soooooo expensive. I can't find any websites with the pegasus hobby platformers in stock. Any other cheap alternatives out there?

Mantic has some good kits. If you're willing to put out $150 at the outset, you can get enough for a pretty dense 4x4:

There are dozens of companies which produce laser-cut MDF "notNecromunda" terrain. In fact, just google "mdf necromunda terrain" and you'll find a lot of images/websites with links. It's much more cost-efficient, if not quite as pretty.

Both fantastic looking ideas. Thanks for the posts.

As far as the MDF stuff goes, does it paint well? Being flatter I imagine it looks a little more drab.

You could also always copy or modify the designs for the original Necromunda terrain. If you made your own bulkheads out of foamcore, card stock or plasticard it would be simple to throw together some walls and floors.

MDF paints up well, but I've heard a good idea is to spray it with cheap varnish first so that it doesn't soak up the paint.

mdf tends to warp and is vulnerable to moisture

but that doesn't matter nearly as much on small squared up pieces like terrain. and a good sealing with spray varnish takes care of 99% of the issues.

as to it looking flat. yes it does But thats where a little modeling and kit bashing can really bring out a lot of its potential.

Maki Games also makes some great stuff that I'm working on using for Shadow War.
