Now that we are starting on the path of nu-ing all space marines, who do you think will be the first "Nued" Space Marine character?
After the introduction nu-plagues I think the obvious choice would be Draigo because you know, chaos.

Typhus would make sense coupled with a new/generic commander for Primaris Marines aligned to Roboute.
|
Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you. |

It'll be some new dude. They might issue a new, Nu-looking model for existing characters, but it doesn't make any sense for an existing named character to suddenly turn into a Primaris Marine. How would that work, anyway?
I wouldn't complain if they ginned up a named Primaris guybrush for the Iron Hands, though.

Yea, they set up a new breed of marines. They can't update any of the existing characters unless they magically change the process to allow enhancement of old marines. The new ones are all faceless mooks that probably will get their own new characters pulled out the hat unless they change the process of creating nu marines. (which is entirely possible...I might even prefer that)

If somebody wants some character, don't wait very long. I lost the opportunity to buy in the past Throgg the Troll King and the Black Orc Big Boss model. Now I have buyed all the models I wanted in the past monts: Vulkan Hes'than, Krell, one of every single Chaplain, a Black Templar Emperor Champion, etc, etc...

Sound advice. The more I think and write about it, the less likely it seems that GW will continue to produce two lines of Space Marines in different scales.

Well, assuming just for a moment the process is a way to upgrade existing Marines, the first named character is obvious to me, Cato Sicrius. the man accompanied Gulliman home to Terra, so presumably he's still there. he's a noted tactician, an ultramarine, and a pretty high profile character.
That said, if regular marines could be upgraded, why peicemeal em out, why not call entire chapters back in a rotating schedule to be upgraded.

Nah he just has some incredible calves. He's just never gotten a chance to show them off!... Though to be honest I still was surprised they justified this by saying he has some incredible archeotech cybernetic legs that they pilfered.. Er I mean "Borrowed" from Mars given the fact he got pounded into the dust by a Daemon Prince.

limited resources? perhaps the new tech requires something that is ether finite or un mass producible. otherwise we can go back to the why not give every marine plasma guns kinda thing. oh but the whole cawl was doing this in secret for 10k years bit of fluff does rub me the wrong way.

It's possiable it's been ready for awhile but without someone like Gulliman on hand, simply just revealing he did it would result in his work being destroyed and him being killed.

I actually like the idea of them "upgrading" existing marines better than them mass producing brand new marines from a fluff perspective. It would still take time to do, so there would still be the fluff justification for having both old and new marines on the table.

To everyone saying they might not "Nu" existing characters; we have no idea how Nu-Marines are created yet. Maybe Robot girlyman has a magic wand that bestows Nu-ness on all the good little Snowflakes.
Given the fluff though, the first set of "Nus" would probably be ultras. Specifically Papa Smurf and Tigrus. Then maybe Logan Nu-mar and Dant-nu. Azrael and the DAs might get shafted again, considering apparently the news of the fallen got out (and DA gets shafted every time there's a new edition it's practically tradition now).

Pretty optimistic considering the expense of creating new sculpts for each existing character - or even chapter specific unit - in the larger scale. That's a lot of cost for GW to incur just to let people buy one of their favorite character to match their Primaris marines, especially when you think about how little it would cost them to say, "Yeah, those guys are dead," and continue on with a fresh new line.

However yeah marines have gone through phases with thunder warriors and stuff but i just can't stand a lot of this. It's getting to be too AoS and it doesn't seem like GW is listening to the customers like they say they are. I mean look at 'Gathering Storm' and how OP it all was. I'm just saying this mirrors 'End Times' and AoS to a great extent and while End Times wasn't all bad it totally ramped up the OP BS in a game.
I never was that into the super grim-darkness of 40k or space marines btw so i switched to fantasy which had humor, some happiness with some grimness and wit until AoS and then i went back to 40k because i hated it so much. They basically ruined all i loved about Fantasy. Seriously i don't think i can think of a single solitary thing i enjoyed about AoS. That's how much they alienated the Old Fantasy fans.

They could do it like Skarbrand or Fateweaver; release it as a set for the generic commander while retaining some extra bits to create the special character. Especially if they do multiples in one go.
Calgar would just need a bolter attachment to a power fist, unique head, second power fist with bolter and a unique chest plate. Tigrus just needs a new wand, head and shoulderpad from a generic librarian. And so forth (you can already make Dante from the Sanguinary Guard box, just add an infernopistol).

I'm not taking such a dour stance on this, but I'm definitely starting to get some heavy End Times vibes after the reveal of Primaris marines.
