Hello all again,
Firstly, the reason why this is not in the list section is because I would like people to help me craft and review the lore of the ork clan.
Secondly, the list is not really built for winning or tournaments play and is made up from what I bought cheap and what I like. Details are missed out on the list, such as boss poles, bug choppas and power claws but presume they're there.
Finally, this is written up on my tablet so sorry for bad formatting and bad spelling.

So the list consists of:
HQ:
1 warboss,
1 Big Mek with force shield
Units:
2 15 ork boyz shootas with armour and nob, 1 big shoota, 1 rocket.
3 10 boyz choppas and slugs with armour and nobs
2 10 grots, squig and prods.
Elite:
1 4 man nob squad, waagh banner, armour, ect... (smaller squad for more manageable and flanking)
Heavy support:
Custom made lobba made from spare parts with 2 grots
2 oop deff dreads with big shoots and rockets
1 oop killa kans squad made of 4 kans, 3 skorcha, 1 rocket
1 modern plastic killa kans squad made of 3 kans, 1 skorcha, 1 rocket, 1 Grotzoka.

Everything equals to about 1500-1800s when I give or take upgrades.

As you can see, I like heavy weapons, grots and ground numbers and I'm obviously making its two Cads for objective secured. However, I like the fact that orks don't have to be lore driven if you don't want to and the idea of creating my own lore for the clan really takes my fancy. Right now they're all painted red and black with black and white checkers (very goff looking) but i'm going for more a sub faction within the goffs at most.

I'll tell you what I have so far and what ideas I like. So, for names I'm thinking of two names for two play styles.

1. Angel Bruisers.
This fits my black and red scheme.
The first Cad would be dread heavy and called the Angels (as all the units are dead in dreadnought/kan armour or back up support)
The second is the Bruisers who are all heavy hitting sluggas and choppas.
However, don't have much lore for this down.

2. The Clan of Brotherz.
Colour scheme doesn't have to stay the same.
The first Cad woukd be called the Big Brotherz and focusing much on the Orks (deff dreads, warboss, boyz, ect...)
The second Cad, run by the Big Mek, would be called the Little Brotherz and focus more on Gretchin (kans, lobba, ect...)
The lore surrounding this can work around a hierarchy of age and size. With the idea the clan formed when it is cut off fighting necrons and chaos for a long time (the main factions I only fight at the club), so although retaining Ork traits, have more respect for each other (but still hierarchical system. So gretchin are trusted more to have their own cad with cans and shootas but will still be stepped on if they get out of line). And there could be more hierarchy within the cads. Ie, the oop kans being older than the new kans.

Futher details of note:
The warboss is shoota heavy with twin linked and is painted in the exsact same way as one of the squads of shootas so I like them being together. The warband obviously loves walkers as described. They like more marching, hence the heavy armour. Each squad of boyz has unique traits visually. One all have helmets, one all have those russian hats and the other all have red faces not hats. I have a few spares and ammo gretchins laying about.

First off, you mean Warband or Tribe - not clans.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
As for lore, despite the rep gretchin get, they are smarter and more cunning than orks (that's not saying a lot I know) - have a read of some of the old fluff for Orks. Grots having their own CaD, sure, no issue with that.

Orks don't tend to take any notice of age. This is because as far as we know, orks don't die of old age or suffer any ill effects of aging as humans do, and as such Orks have no use for age once they have matured into full orks.

Size however is a pretty common way of sorting out who is in charge. This is because the more an ork fights, the bigger he gets - as such, a large ork has been in more fights than a small ork.

Ah, thank you. Orks get very little attention so all the fluff I read tends to miss oùt details or ignore them. The brothers thing would actually work better because of the hight but I meant age as in age of the models. The metal oop kans are obviously older than the newest ones.

What I would think about for a lore is:

What planet do they live on?
Who do they usually fight?
Who leads them currently? Describe his past.
Do they have any ambition? That might happen with some orks, especially meks.
Do they have a particular way of fighting/ what clan is prevailing (goffs, evil sunz...?)?
What other important characters does the army have within its ranks?

As far as the name, rely on very "keyboard bash like style", and do not take yourself any seriously doing it. Otherwise that's the best way either not to find anything fitting or to end up with Something ridiculous in a bad manner.

Finally, try to build it discussing it with other poeple if you can, that helps abide within the canon lore, and can pop very great ideas out.

Hope that helps you in any way

I hope to see more of your fluff as it develops as I would like to throw in my suggestions, comments and knowledge of Ork lore. It would be a good chance for me to pay forward all the help I received so far with my Imperial Guard Background (link in my signature).

What I will say is that developing a background for your army can turn into a bit of an obsession if you let it (I once again refer to my own Imperial Guard). While it can be a lot of work, it can also be very enjoyable and rewarding.

I hope to see this develop

Nah, I'm not that into it. I just want a little bit of home brew lore for my own sake. Literally only want to lightly base it off something from past work and just want to make it up and have fun! Although I do love the idea of my Warboss being called Bugrat Skumdreg because there is only ever one mention of him on the wiki and his quote is "All Orks is equal, but some Orks are more equal dan uvvas." which I love and perfectly suits the attitude of this Warband. So I'm thinking more the name Band o' Bruvvas as my finale warband name!

I really like to set my warband on this planet http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Angelis
I know it's from a special game it fits for a few reasons. Firstly, I own a desert table mat with a shanty town. Secondly, it has necrons (My friend has necrons). Thirdly, it just opened up to marines and possibly (witha bit of fan fiction) chaos. Finally, it's a great setting for a meky army. With grots and stuff. Futher fan fiction can have my tribe loot the incoming marines teck to leave the planet whenever I play on another mat.

In that case you want to have a read of GorkaMorka Da Uver Book ( https://yaktribe.org/community/vault/gorkamorka-da-uvver-book.208/ ).

This gives you info on the planet in question and a good few laughs as well

It's worth noting that in the fluff, Gorkamorka/Angelis was evidently scoured of Orks at some point before 692 M41, as returning Imperial surveyors found a Necron Dirge-class raider and no orks to mention.

And the fact that the Raider was still there is because all the Orks are on board it cracking eads

Honestly man, my motto when it comes to fluff is that you do what you think maximises your fun times. Then you justify it within the context of fluff.

I've seen people make actual gundam tau armies, warhammer pirate vampire count armies, and hello kitty space marine armies.

Have a good time, and fluff comes later. Just make sure you're not THAT GUY who thinks his army is the best and everyone else's army is crap. Screw that guy.

It seems like you have a lot of walkers. Maybe fluff it as an ambitious Mek starting his own dread mob, with the Warboss and nobs as subordinates kept in line by the kans (who are loyal to the Mek). Not sure, just brainstorming.

Honestly people are willing to accept almost anything as fluffy for orks, due to their insane canon. Weirdboy-heavy Tzeentch-worshipping splinter Waaagh? Seems fine. Grot revolutionary army? Totally awesome. Orks who think they're space marines? Sure. So don't worry about playing as a Mek contingent from Gorkamorka/Angelis, it'll go over fine with 99% of the people you'll meet.

I'm gonna side with oldzoggy on this. There is actually quite a bit of fluff for the greenskins, just not in current 40k. Take a trip back to a little game called Space Marine or Epic as many understand it. There is a great bit of detail on the ork clans and how they interact/operate. A lot of this was carried forward to the early 40k Codex: Orks.

Lexicanum has a good bit on the 6 major ork clans of 40k. I say pick a major theme for your custom clan, you have a good core of walkers and a mek. Why not go with 'da Gear Edz, focus on the walkers and mek as the center pieces and the boyz and boss fill out the army.
