With 8th ed seemingly hyping up it seems like a good time to start up a new army to try to get back into this game. So I grabbed a box of chaos marines, a chaos lord to covert from AoS to 40k and a crimson slaughter box cause my local store didn't have any other landraiders left and it has a couple of things in it I want to try out with the changes in 8th; mostly the godhammer land raider and terminators.

One thing I'd like to do with these guys however is try to focus on all three aspects of the game (lore, painting/modelling, gameplay) so hopefully I'll be trying to add some background to these guys as I go (I'm initially aiming on at least a small paragraph to go with each finished unit) and sort of give them an evolving story by summarising games I've played with them when I can.

+++Report by Lord Inquisitor Daikun, Ordo Chronos+++
What little information we've gathered about the Star Ravagers is seemingly contradictory at times, fitting given the nature of our Ordo, however extremely curious. Firstly, the records are stated as if entered by myself, however sometimes before I've entered them; even the very information we try to maintain seems tainted by whatever ruinous powers wielded by these heretics. If these claims are more than just filthy lies spewed forth to corrupt loyal, faithful members of the great Imperium then there are quite a few implications that will need urgent attention. These traitors need to be executed unless the means are present to have them interrogated by the Inquisition's best.

The warband led by the traitor Castel Azun, seems to be mostly made up of run of the mill heretic astartes which are of little interest to our Ordo. It is the elite core of this, the actual members of the Star Ravagers chapter, that are quite interesting. Despite their higher stature within the warband they at times almost appear as if less physically corrupted than their underlings, yet each stands taller than their corrupted bretheren. They've claimed (or will claim) to have been founded towards the later end or after the Indominus Crusade and their claims [REDACTED]

of the Emperor are shocking. Not only had they claimed that the traitor Horus had been placed into the golden throne in place of the Emperor in one last devious trick (a claim somewhat substantiated by identifying Inquisitor Lexington of the Ordo Hereticus and his interrogation), but that they had come from a point in the future, on purpose (questioning of Archmagos Belisarius Cawl pending), where the primaris marines had entirely replaced their predecessors. They claim to have been sent by the then Ordo Chronus as Horus had apparently put into motion his plan to attain godhood. Whilst they had been sent at legion strength with the intention of bolstering the Emperor's forces during the Siege on Terra the current increased levels of warp activity ejected them over 10,000 years too early (or late) and with many of their forces ending up who knows where if even alive, or if they even still exist, or will. These claims are fairly hard to believe and thus likely to just be the lies of heretics; however further investigation is required.

They have, or will, make mention of wanting to meet with Roboute Guilliman to explain the situation to him in full; perhaps we can use this to our advantage.

Anyway this is the army so far,

First up the chaos lord: Lord Castel Azun, Chapter Master of the Star Ravagers

The chaos lord with the spear from AoS seemed pretty cool to try to bring to 40k, not to mention with the scale creep of this guy to the normal chaos marines they stand up to just under his shoulders on the same bases.

Went with a heavy bolter and flamer for these guys since we'll be able to splitfire.

These guys should be fun with charging after deep striking, though their poses seem goofy. I've yet to actually decide which will be the champion yet.

Tried to make the raider chaosy but not spiky since it's going to annoy me when the spikes likely break over time. It has a third chain across the back at the bottom of the engine block so while sort of vanilla looking still it's still notably chaos.

I've not really got anything planned this time around going more from a model to model basis thinking what looks cool, and later as I get closer to point milestones, what gaps do I have that I need to fill up. Although there are two models I'm looking at adding at the moment, they don't really add to building the core of the force though, and those are a renegade knight and a heldrake.

Been flat out at work, but have managed to get some stuff done with these guys on and off so time to update this.
Firstly I've decided to go with Slaanesh as the god of choice for this force
I got 20 daemonettes, only 10 built so far.

Used to have an army of these but they got damaged and it wasn't worth trying to salvage it again sadly. I'm going to be sticking to a limited palette as I did the last time with these, maybe some slight colour variation to improve on it though.

The platform they're on is gone too, however I still have 2 spare lids I originally built it from so I could toss together another and I'm going to be trying to build even more terrain for this army as I go along too.

Also tossed together a herald cause why not.

The squad got the purple basecoated then the first stage of highlighting it.

It's at this point I realised my black paint had dried out so I wasn't able to clean up all the guns and such for the next part. Since my schedule and GW's opening hours only match up for one day a week and on that day I'm busy this week it was time to look at doing other things.
Which meant the land raider got a little work done to it. I wanted to have more of an anti-marine feel to this force but I have a ton of Eldar parts and it seemed sort of cool to go that way at least for the raider.

I want to, but I'd either just make my own or wait for plastic ones.

Not really much of an update today, threw together a sorceress and typed up some general background for the army overall based a little on some stuff I read earlier apparently from the horus heresy collected visions book.
