With all the leaked info would anyone rather play power level than points for the simplicity of it?
I personally look at the entry with the power level and everything nicely compartmentalised and think, 'I could make a list much easier that way.'
What do you think now more information is readily available?

I plan on giving it a good chance. Not worrying about points so much will make it quicker and easier to get pick up games ready when meeting up with players without any pre-planned lists.
I think they will be balanced enough for relaxed games. Besides, if everyone brings their preferred upgrades on their units, then everyone has their units at so many Points over the Power Level.
Really, it reminds me of Warmahordes's points system back in MkII, in as much as it is a rough estimate of power rather than specific and detailed. And I didn't hear many people complain about the points costs in that game near as much!

No, i don't plan to ever use power levels.
It really isn't that much more difficult than any other edition to just do the points, and i feel like it results in a more balanced experience for both players.
It's possible if i was at a store for a pickup game i would let another person use point levels vs my points, but i would always prefer both players have normal point value armies.
That's just me, though.

Probably give it a few runs, might be a good way of introducing newbies to list building.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go. |

I plan on using power levels. Even in the Only War way where they don't necessarily have to be the same for both sides in a fight.
It'll be quick.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

Nope, it's a stupid system that combines all the flaws of conventional points with additional balance problems. And once you've been playing for a while you've memorized the point costs for your most common units/upgrades and the time savings from adding up power levels instead of points is virtually nonexistent. Automatically Appended Next Post: BunkhouseBuster wrote:Not worrying about points so much will make it quicker and easier to get pick up games ready when meeting up with players without any pre-planned lists.
No it won't. In fact, it will make building new lists for a random game slower, as the only way to add or remove points is in whole-unit blocks of 5-20+ points. There's no more option to add or remove small upgrades to fine-tune your point level, so you're going to have a lot more situations where you're 1-2 points over the limit but have to redo your entire list to make it work. And that means more time screwing around with list construction instead of playing the game.
Now, you can obviously avoid this problem by saying "good enough" if the points are at least roughly equal and ignoring the small differences. But you can do the exact same thing with conventional points, so this isn't an advantage for power levels.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

I still don't understand what the ,uh, point of power levels really are. Ever so slightly easier to use, for a potentially big drop in realistic customization options and balance? Seems like the opposite of what narrative games need. If they somehow become the standard for organized play I suppose I'll use it, but I do t see that happening. I mean... we all have calculators right? Using power level vs points saves you a few moments on a calculator, with the additional pain of not being able to shave a few points off or add a handful if you have the room.
