So; I've been theorycrafting (read: picking units that sound cool) an Imperial list - partly because I heard they are (Imperial Guard anyways) not so good, and partly because I found some cool miniatures online.

How terrible does the following list look? I'll admit it doesn't have much of a plan; I saw Kastelan Robots and Sisters of Battle (each with the ability to double activate during the different combat phases), and wanted to see what I could make happen with them. Additionally, Basilisks are 100 points each? That seems kinda nuts.

Patrol Detachment:
HQ: Master of Ordnance [1] - 38
Troops 1: Battle Sisters [15] - 135
Troops 2: Battle Sisters [12] - 108
Elites 1: Ratlings [10] - 70
Elites 2: Ratlings [10] - 70
Heavy Support 1: Kastelan Robots, 3xHeavy Phosphor Cannon [2] - 220
Heavy Support 2: Basilisk [3] - 300

Auxiliary Detachment
Elite 1: Cybernetica Datasmith [1] - 52

The HQ sits with the Basilisks, the Ratlings get into a weird position and try to cause havoc/delay; and everything else just shoots and does things. I don't have an answer to heavy armor, aside from hoping my artillery/Master of Ordnance can blow it to kingdom come.
Side note: When I made this list, I didn't realize the Ratling sniper rifles cost some points per gun, I thought it was a standard 0; otherwise both Battle Sisters squads would be 15 models each.

Perhaps I should drop the second Battle Sisters squad, take some flamers or other weapons on the first Battle Sisters; then take additional Conscripts or Infantry Squads - not sure.

Master of Ordance isn't HQ, hes an elite choice.

Other then that, I'm in the same-ish boat as you. My collection is entirely Guard and Sisters stuff. If your going to have battle sisters, why not include a Cannoness to get that aura reroll 1's buff? There is your HQ choice, and shes only 45pts now!! Ratlings I think are much better with their sniper rifles as they threaten enemy characters by being bale to actually shoot them. Basilisks are better too now because of the ability to shoot within 36inches while not needing line of sight, im anticipating using mine soon! They aren't 100 as you have to pay for that heavy bolter so they are really 108pts but still cheaper!! If you are going to have 3 then the MAster of Ordinace isn't a bad choice, i only have 1 so i think hed be a waste of points for me. Consider sticking a Astropath with them as well to give them ignores cover, thats my plan.

Ratlings should be useful at picking off enemy characters at least!

I saw with eyes then young, and this is my testament.

Thanks for the thoughts! I totally missed that the Master of Ordnance is an Elite choice, not HQ; and that the Basilisks had a Heavy Bolter (which needs to be payed for!). I always have trouble with digital books, less so for paperbound ones (easier to flip through, haha).

Replacing the Master of Ordnance with the Cannoness is the right call, great catch! That re-roll aura will be very nice for the Battle Sisters. I didn't realize Astropath's were pretty cheap, I'll probably have to add one or two in. They only work for Astra Militarum units though, so Battle Sisters won't get that benefit; not a huge loss, just the faction keywords will be something to be aware of this entire edition.

I'll have to revise this list and update the original post - It's looking like I'll have to drop a Basilisk to make the points really work - that said, it should give me enough
