I've been getting the impression that Superheavy's are becoming more and more phased into the regular game; didn't expect there to be a new Apocalypse mode.

I saw with eyes then young, and this is my testament.

seconded.

and from what I've heard about scalability issues I wouldn't get too worked up for an apoc game just yet.

Necrons - 6000+
Eldar/DE/Harlequins- 6000+
Genestealer Cult - 2000
Currently enthralled by Blanchitsu and INQ28.

So apoc will just become more along the lines of 10,000pt games?

Looks like it. And in my opinion, I always felt that Apocalypse worked better as just a large game with Super-heavies. Some of the 6th Edition Apocalypse stuff was just too far over the top, and made cool moments on the table feel less significant.

Also,I did like the structure of apoc. I don't wanna arrange a game and bring a battle company and then play against a guy who is just gonna spam deathstars

I don't remember the specifics, but there were a couple rules for "glorious moments" that allowed your Warlord to like, triple his movement and attacks for a turn, and things like that. I haven't looked at that book in so long, and I just remember not liking those abilities and bonuses, because it just felt like it was making the epic moments less epic when you can just pop this effect and make things crazy.

That requires taking the time and effort to find like-minded players and planning the game out ahead of time. But seeing as how deathstars as we know them are gone, it may not be an issue.

From my experience only 2 types of apoc games really worked well.

Massive points where what you take honestly doesn't matter it's just about loads of killing and thus fun.

Or

Have a specific designed scenario so both have a fluff aspect to the army representing something historical or along those lines. Gives everything a purpose and the player a drive to behave in flavour of the game.

In terms of apocalypse I don't think it will exist as separate rules open play / narrative rules honestly cover it well enough because +/-100 points here or there doesn't matter in a 10 20 or 40 thousand point game. From the looks of the stompa Lord of Skulls and the fact knights and wraith knights seem to have increased Into the big boys field it seems for certain super heavies will fit in normally but will definetly eat a massive chunk of points. By the looks of it a revenant or warhounds will easily be 1000-1300ish points by my guess they are the biggest boys you can really get onto a 6×4. Warlords reaver and phantoms likely will see a points hike to but already weren't usable in a standard game (technically a reaver was but you only had like 200 other points left).

Though all this is pure speculation but they always have been a class above the stompa at least since 5th ed and I don't expect them not to be so it's a 50-60% of your army in 1 model if you want one type of thing.

Back to the main topic apocalypse probably will never get a new book and it really is up for the players to decide as the system isn't really built around that scale and it's always a bit hard to work it out. Probably better to use power levels at that point though otherwise it becomes a mission to write out a 10k lost.
