Anyone found any apps that are helpful in painting? I googled a few but never had any experience with any of them.

Apps in what respect? What is it you're trying to accomplish?

Krita is a great open source painting program for digital art, not sure how you would want to use it in this application but it couldn't hurt to check out.

If you're talking about painting programs to "simulate" a palette scheme, for example, yep, Krita or Sai are probably your best options. I've both and probably Krita is far easier (as it's free and it's pretty similar to photoshop).
About mobile apps, no idea, sry, but I dont suggest you to paint stuff in mobile if you're able to do it on your pc. XD

If it's PC programs, Krita does look good as Ryuhoshi mention.

The one I use at work is Serif Affinity, Works in a similar fashion to Photoshop, while not free, it is just a one off payment of £40 (If I remember rightly)

As for apps, if it's for colour theory, I've found that these don't always work as it's very dependent on the paint and make that is being used, I tried to make a shade up by adding x number of drops to x number of drops to x number of drops to make, what was on the screen, a very specific purple.

I ended up with a very, very dark brown.

Not to hijack this thread, but for PC, is Krita better than Gimp? ...I personally love Gimp but this is my first time hearing about Krita.

On topic - I've used PaintRACK in the past, it's pretty nice for cataloging your paints and setting up certain palettes for projects but I'm a pen and notebook guy and it's just easier to add little notes that way so I didn't ultimately find the app that useful.

I think GIMP is much better suited for photo manipulation, I use it quite a lot for my astrophotography rather than graphic art

Krita looks very similar to Serif Affinity or Adobe Illustrator which is much better suited for Artwork

Ahh good to know! ...years ago I tried Inkscape but found it lacking, I'll give Krita a shot.

Apologies, I should have been more specific. Looking for something that can inventory paints, keep track of mixtures, recipes, etc.

Or maybe there is an app there that does other things as well?

PaintRACK, does do inventory very well and can store recipes and mixes (sort of). What I didn't like at the time (last year) was that you couldn't add notes or quantity for mixes...

So you could have Red + Blue + White... but I needed ratios. All of my paint notebooks look like: (1st shade = 3 Black : 1 Red : 1 matte medium), that sort of thing.

He was super responsive to feedback though so maybe it can do that now. I just prefer a notebook and pen.
