Was on the GW site, excited to see what was going on this glorious June 3...

Looks like we got the edition we wanted, at a much higher cost. I'll have to delay my new 8th ed. ork project .

[Edit] I was very mistaken. For some reason my browser was set to Australia (don't know why)! That makes a big difference in the number behind the $$! Nothing to see here folks.

Dunno about conversion rates.

But the supplementary stuff isn't a price hike in UK terms.

£35 for a rulebook iirc is actually cheaper than the past few editions.
£15 indexes (even the FW ones ) is a hell of a lot cheaper - I personally thought we'd be looking at £20 FW Indexes so that's a pleasant surprise.

The boxed game is on part with the other releases - worth noting the rulebook is the full hardcover, not a mini rulebook.

Now only a CSM player.

Weren't the rulebook tomes always £30-£35?

Seem to recall the past few editions sporting £40-£45 mark for the books.

Willing to admit when I'm wrong, and in this case I was very wrong. For some reason my browser was set for Australia (I live in the US). That makes a big difference in the numbers appearing being the $ sign!

I'll see if I can pull this down.

What did you expect? The models wouldn't get any cheaper, we were never told anything about cheaper models.

The rulebook is far cheaper (to my knowledge) than what it used to be, and the indices are VASTLY cheaper (seeing as they contain several armies, and are cheaper than a codex for a single faction).
To get started from scratch (so new models, rules and index), you need to spend £100 (Getting Started, Index, Rulebook), and half of that comes from the models themselves. Just the index and rules are £50. That's a lot cheaper than what it used to be.

EDIT - Global pricing difference strikes again!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they say that the rules would be available for free?

Not that it matters; I've already bought Warhammer 40,000, Limited Privileged Edition

Only the Core rules. The rules for matched (and narrative, IIRC) play were not marketed as free.

Ahh, thanks for clarifying that.

The Rulebook does seem cheaper than the last 2 editions (6th ed - £45, 7th - £50(?)), so I think it might just be conversion rates or taxes that make it look more expensive than before.
