So I got bored last night and started scrolling through the new Tau stuff, and I noticed something.
Longstrike gets a +1 to wound rolls and does d 3 mortal wounds on a 6+ with his rolls, which means a 5 or a 6 will net you on average 2 mortal wounds. So what happens if you re roll every time you don't get a 5 or 6 on your roll so you get that extra d 3 mortal wounds
Given anything that has 4 or more wounds at T 6-9 if you only re-roll when you fail to wound. You do about 3.5 wounds per hit.
I found that the difference in damage is .06 or 6 more wounds in 100 shots in FAVOR of rerolling every time.
To do this you need 1 ML for hits re-rolling 1s, Longstrike and 6 CP, but from what I can tell on average you will have 1 more non wound per game, and 2 more wounds that do d3 extra mortal wounds. All in all on average per game you will net about .5 extra wounds per game and average 4.5 wounds per shot as opposed to 3.6 wounds per shot if you don't re-roll.
