The Ynnari are basically my dream army, my Craftworld Eldar army from 4th edition were Ynnead worshippers and I have always wanted to be able to combine the various Eldar factions into one. I am only returning to 40k now as of 8th edition and am wondering what the opinions are on Ynnari in 8th? I am also interested in hearing how people go about deciding which units to take in an army with soooo many competing choices.

The general consensus I saw was that taking your craftworld eldar as ynnari was a no brainier. Strength from death is just flat out better than battle focus and ancient doom. The relevant discipline is also among the best psychic disciplines in the game so far, mainly for word of the phoenix, though that means you want Yvraine as she is the only consistent user you can set up at the start of the game.

Dark eldar are a bit more questionable, as power from pain isn't a bad rule. Basically with dark eldar its less of an auto take, more of a fair tradeoff.

Harlequins really want rising crescendo however, and without it they lose some impact. So maybe skip on them.

Strength from death really encourages large units of infantry and bikes who either like fighting in melee or enjoy close range shooting. Long range shooting and tanks are still good in moderation of course, finishing off a wounded enemy to give a nearby unit the boost, but you want a close range core to the army it seems. Warp spiders, shining spears, or even swooping hawks, plus any of the pure melee troops like bashees all work well under it. In fact, probably better to focus on boosting your most powerful fast attack.elite units, so rangers as troops might make sense. Not going to waste a soulburst on a storm squad afterall.

Also, keep in mind you don't need to do Ynarris to mix and match units from the different Eldar sub-factions anymore.
All of them have the Aeldari keyword, so all of them can be included in the same detachment (and I'm positive FW's corsairs will also have that keyword).

They seem REALLY good, as said before Strength From Death is better than Battle Focus, period and may be better than Power From Pain and Rising Crescendo.

I am having a hard time thinking of which combinations I want though. I'm thinking dark eldar infantry backed up by craftworld tanks, wraith constructs and aspect warriors, maybe some harlequins but need to think a lot more about it.

I started building Ynnari when they came out in 7th. I have 3 units of 3 windrider/reavers, 5 incubi, venom, 2 skyweavers, farseer. So can play them together and not use the Ynnari?

Yes, because all have the Aeldari keywords, and each of them will get their own relevant ability (e.g. all your craftworld would get battle focus/ancient doom, all your dark eldar would get power from pain) instead of getting Strength From Death
