We've seen the release for the Fortress of Redemption in 8th edition (shown below for those who haven't), but there are some points that are rather ambiguous. If anyone could help clarify, that would be great. Thanks in advance!

Spoiler:

1. Whilst the rule states that the Fortress doesn't use automated fire when it is manned, it does not state whether or not the Fortress BS is replaced by the unit manning it.

2. Can it only take 1 unit(maximum) + any number of characters up to 30 models or multiple units up to 30 models?
This might just be reading comprehension error on my part but I'm struggling to see why it would only hold 1 unit with such a high model cap.
Also, the 'Designer's note' specifically says "unit(s) are inside", plural.

3. If the weapons are on automated, would the Skyfire (in effect) Icarus prioritize flying targets or abide by the closest visible enemy rule?

1. Use the Fortress' BS. A manned Fortress doesn't need to shoot at the nearest, that's the only difference.

2. Only 1 non-Character unit and up to 30 models. So if you want you could put 10 Characters and a single 20-man unit inside.

2. Skyfire isn't really a thing, the Icarus array simply has modifires based on weather its shooting at a flying or non-flying unit. It still shoots at the nearest if on automated.

Best at to think of most fortifications in 8th is as large immobile vehicles with 5 up to hit guns and plenty of wounds

Occupying it allows you to choose its targets, and unlike most vehicles you can shoot out.

Not a huge fan of the change, as it means shooting fortifications are rarely likely to hit much. It makes it near pointless to take them unless they have a high rate of fire. Skyshield looks interesting though

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

:/ That's actually pretty sad.

If this thing loses 2/3rds of its health it's basically neutered and can't hit anything (except fliers on a 6 with the icarus). Even the 1/3rd lost health cripples its damage projection.

You can't hold multiple units when previously you could hold 4 internally :(
