The follow up to the super successful Ghosts of Gaia Kickstarter - the first from Bad Squiddo. We've been self funding for a while now, often at mass personal expense, so have started doing the odd Kickstarter to get a nice WHOOMPF of funds, most of which goes straight back into the business.
Lots more pictures to come, my computer died a day after launch so just waiting for my copy of Photoshop to arrive today for the new laptop and I'll get sorting the rest of the painted photos.
Aside from all the amazing people I work with, Bad Squiddo is a one-woman company, so any support in forms of pledges or shares is reallllly extra appreciated.
Just unlocked Patti the Ogre too!
And very close to Squeepiosa!
Cheers!
Annie

Some cool models here - I especially like Juliet!
Not so sure about the tattoo stretch goal - probably a good idea to clarify that no KS funds will be used to pay for it.

Yeah there are some great designs, I like Boomer, and I like the fish-bowl helmeted figures from the previous campaign.
The tattoo stretch goal seems silly to me. Why would backers care about that? What does it have to do with the project?

Tattoo unlock was a silly "heck if we get to £20,000 sure I'll get a tattoo",
I already put that as a clarification in the second update, but here
"A clarification too - I heard complaints about the 20k goal that people don't get anyhing. I cover this in the video but just to repeat - you will get cool stuff too! I just haven't had a chance to decide what or make promises I can't keep on things that aren't ready yet. I have a great one but don't want to put my person under too much pressure. Also if we do get to 20k, Rochie will be doing the tattoo as a personal arrangement, no ks money won't be used! And your reward from that is of course my live streamed pain"
Although it shouldn't matter, as a chunk of that would be my earnings anyway, I just so happen to be a company that currently doesn't pay myself, other than what I need to live, as everything goes straight back into the business, so I found it odd that there was that controversy. Which is also more important to note as this is my full time job - I have no other income. I really am that passionate about what I do that it's constant reinvesting back into new sculpts, so I was a bit taken aback by the concept of sitting on a solid gold throne with everyone's cash. But yes, to clarify again, no Kickstarter money will be spent on that, it was a bit of fun....
I'll change the wording on it tomorrow, I'm just exhausted.
Lots new unlocks and pictures too, I'm just a bit cross eyed - so, tomorrow.

I understood that you were not running off with the Kickstarter funds to get yourself the most expensive tattoo ever and I am sure that 99% of the backers knew that as well so don't let the couple of vocal complainers get to you (they mostly understood as well but are just being awkward on purpose).

You are kinda saying two things here.
1, that KS money won't be used for your tattoo and 2, that the KS money used for the tattoo would be considered "your earnings" from the campaign and thus free for you to use as you see fit.
So, ultimately doesn't that mean backers are paying for the tattoo?
Also, stretch goals typically add to a campaign. Per KS's own advisory page about stretch goals, stretch goals are "a way for creators to "stretch" beyond the initial, official goal of the Kickstarter project and raise more money (and often make cooler stuff!)... Stretch goals can make a project more difficult to complete. Fulfilling rewards can be demanding, and any time you add new stuff (more songs on your album, better materials or options for your creation) the demands increase." While KS doesn't explicitly state that the SG needs to add value to the campaign, that is how most backers view SGs. A vanity tattoo doesn't add anything to the camping (even live streamed pain, sorry that doesn't count).
Tying the tattoo to the campaign at all just seems like a bad idea and one that could lead to problems down the road. Why not drop the idea and add a project-related stretch goal instead? You could still get the tat with your KS earnings but it wouldn't be a focal point for the project.
And as for why people are grumbling about this, there have been some high profile Kickstarters that went sideways because KS funds were used for the project creator's personal gain/whims. Surely, you can see why there would be some skepticism about a tat that you are trying to fund via a miniatures campaign?

Rochie is doing it for free, so there is no money from anywhere. We didn't want to initially state it would be free as he didn't want to get inundated with requests. He's been an amazing supporter of the Believable Female Minis project from the start, and it was his way of saying thanks (as aside from his contributions to the industry he's also a full time professional tattoo artist)
On the flipside, the majority of the backers seem super excited by it and have been messaging and commenting pushing for it. It is a very small minority who have complained, but that I still feel needs addressing. There are other stretch goals at that point, but the £20k is currently a pipe dream anyway.

Right, to stop it derailing the discussion of the project I've put months of prep and already a crapload of money into, I've took it off the page. It's still a thing, but it's not listed on the page, so there we go.
So... the minis!

Thanks all, that is super swish, love it! Squeep!
We unlocked Patti
Wrenchmouths (shown in last post)
Kiddies!
Next one is...
Sooo.....
That's all the minis unlocked!... Or is it?
We have a new sculptor on board!
TIM PROW! Known initially for his massive chunk of work for Games Workshop, Tim now works freelance as well as running his own company - Diehard Miniatures. He's also currently very prominently involved in the Pantheon of Chaos successful Kickstarters. An utter gent who has worked with Bad Squiddo before (Adira, the Dark Champion - that was his!), I am so excited. He should have some green goodness for us by the end of the week. Pretty stoked that someone who's been a "I'M NOT WORTHY I'M NOT WORTHY" hero level is involved in my company. Fangirl achievement unlocked. And he called me a "Sweet, adorable, hard ass" earlier, so I think that needs to be my new tagline.
What will Tim be sculpting?
Well one of the figures you haven't seen properly (soon!) is Rags - the Medic assistant. She's the one that works on all the robo prosthetics. The brief for the figure is that Rags has been experimenting with building a mostly metal cyborg. So the human element is basically Robocop - the brain and spine - and she is encased in advanced robotics, but not quite finished, so plenty of wiring on show. She will be bigger, around 40mm, and as soon as I have a good green WIP photo I will show you! Excited!
Alan Marsh
This chap is one of Bad Squiddo's main sculptors. He's produced a lot of figures for us now and is fast, reliable, amazing, and rides a unicycle - what else can you ask for?
He has a lot on his list this wheek! And he is amazing for being so accommodating with my "Halp! Need more sculpts! Need now!"
Peeg and Bunny related, as we are totally unlocking those rules... so we need more troops for the game!
So....
Two "Suspicious Ghosts". I am so excited by these. This lady is acting strange. Why is she acting strange, not human even. Swaying. Hang on.... what is that? Her button just popped open.... well I never... I did not expect to see that.... FUR? HANG ON A MINUTE. Excuse me maam! You are not a human lady at all are you, you are just a pile of fluffy squeepy pigs in a trenchcoat disguise? *opens jacket and a million peegs scuttle off, jacket falls to floor*
Gunny Bunnies pack 2 - to get those numbers up so we have 8 gunny peegs and 8 gunny bunnies.
Peegs and Bunny fast attack - 3 of each. Jet powered skateboards.

So we're building this.... the next set of add ons are going to all be unlocked at once so that I can add new pledge levels and not be faffing int he final hour. Most will have much better photos by Sunday..
Yay we have a good photo of Rags! Rags and a Beast Handler weren't quite finished due to my poorly sculptor but he should have em polished off and with me tomorrow. So Rags is who hangs around with Stitches - so they're a pair of Medic and Assistant. Stitches does the bio work and Rags the robo stuff. On her back are loads of robo prosthetics.
This is [almost finished] work in progress so yes that is a lump of blu tack and a few bits are blobby, don't worry they just need the final finishing, I just just impatient and wanted to show you this, hehe

Ah, and now I have Meredith Brooks' song in my head.
B.I.T.C.H. looks interesting. I like the shaping of the head. It is going to have cyber eyes (or perhaps a single cyber eye)?
For the acronym, what about Biometric Intelligent-Technology Cyborg Helper?

Hehe. I liked the idea that Rags was naming her in a proper way and gave up near the end as she wanted a robot called B.I.T.C.H and needed for invent something techy for it ;-)
I've added more pledge levels to cater for different tastes, so worth checking out! As well as some add ons

The last 24 hours of the campaign so doing a bit of a push! Check it out if you haven't already, we've got some alien ladies coming as well, and a whole range of armoured floofers AND a game! All the 28mm ladies are sensible dressed (in terms of no weird boob displays, the hair definitely isn't sensible!) All the support is super amazing as a one-woman company! Cheers!

I've been beating various sculptors with a shoe to get those last few images for you! These are all work in progress, so if you think "what the heck is going on there" or "that looks a bit weird or soft", don't worry, it's just being fleshed out!
The peeg and bunny fast attack and heavy support are very much works in progress, they take a lot longer, but Alan has let me have these photos to show you just how cool they are coming along! The metal peeg is just for scale, new ones are being sculpted.
This fella is on a bike!
Last but not least, we have B.I.T. CH in a more complete state.
Thankyou so much everyone who has pledged, it is outstanding. It means any extra funds can go towards producting more Bad Squiddo miniatures - we specialise in kick arse "non chainmail bikini" female minis, and being a small operation, this sort of thing makes a huge difference. More WW2 next! Yay!
