Notes:

Alright here is my Tyranid list I almost had a Brigade but it turns out that a unit can't use cult ambush unless everyone in the detachment has the Genestealer Cult keyword. So I have to form a second detachment. just to help you understand how this works I am going to go through it unit by unit. The Hive Tyrants are just Psychic beatsticks that provide synapse down range. The Trygons create a tunnel that transports the genestealers to where I want them to go. The Acolyte hybrid unit that I stuck in the Tyranid Battalion is filling the troop requirement, that acolyte unit does not rely on subterranean uprising (because now it cant use it). Its purpose is to go into the Rock Grinder. The spore mines are to create a bubble to prevent things from deep striking in my backfield. I figure if I spread out six spore mines it will be really difficult for my enemy to stay 9" away from one of them (obviously they can kill them but I think the delay will be well worth the price).

The Patrol Detachments intent is to bring some GSC casting add to my availible psychic powers per turn. The Patriarch and the stupid expensive genestealers (gag) are intended to use subterranean uprising. I also plan on using a "Command Point" to reroll subterranean uprising if the first roll is unsuccessful (instead of paying the extra points for a Primus). The other Acolyte hybrid also goes in a Rock Grinder. The purpose of the Rock Grinders are to have some heavy mid/long range shooting and hold the backfield objectives (ramming and throwing TNT at anything that gets close).

My next step is to attempt to ditch the genestealer cult. I just was not happy with any of the Tyranid backfield options (and I really like rock grinders).

Any feedback would be much appreciated! Thanks for reading.

Just a tidbit - I would run your genestealers all as either Purestrains or as Tyranid genestealers, as the buff from the broodlord only works within that faction (Patriarch doesn't affect Genestealers and Broodlord doesn't affect purestrains)

That being said, I've been dying to find an excuse to use both a broodlord and a patriarch. The powers are so great for both of them!

Thanks Luke for the response,

I did realize the Patriarch does not benefit the Tyranid Genestealers. The reason I included the Patriarch was to have the extra psychic abilities and of course Subterranean Uprising.

In competitive play we can only cast each psychic spell once board wide. So by adding more psychic disciplines I have more spells at my disposal. So the Patriarch is there just to bring the genestealer cult psychic discipline to the mix. I think a more competitive approach might be to ditch the overpriced purestrain genestealers and just run the Patriarch with some Acolytes.

If you decide to ditch the Purestrains, why not consider using a Magus with a throng? That should give you the same casting power, and save some points?

The will of the hive is always the same: HUNGER

The extra psychic table is really nice and the broodlord is a monster. I think a really strong combination might take advantage of both (1 squad of 20 pure strain genestealers with a patriarch and 1 squad of 20 tyranid genestealers with a broodlord)

I just meant that I personally would probably invest more heavily in whatever units then broodlord/patriarch buffed to get more mileage out of the force multiplication effect

Thanks pinecone and Luke! Yeah both of those seem like great ideas to me.

If I take the broodlord I would have to use a Tyrannocyte to transport the genestealers but I think that should be fine since I would probably want to bring a unit of 19 anyway.

Can't wait to actually play a game. I think that will clear a lot up for me.
