Last night during a battle vs. space marines and tau, I used the close order drill doctrine.  Due to the threat of Railgun submunitions, I left my squads spread out.  However, when a space marine assault squad came close, my squad would line up to take the charge.  I've got a couple of questions....

1. While consolidating in cc, if the models stay in base2base, is close order drill in affect?

2.  When assaulting, if the models are in base2base do they get the bonuses?

Thanks alot.. My brother wasen't too happy w/ high initiative guardsmen... Even though they go killed...

1. Can't see why it wouldn't apply.

2. When assaulting, I seriously doubt you would get many situations where you could actually use it. The models will still be bound by the regular assault rules, which force them to get into btb contact with enemy units if possible. You would have to be positioned pretty carefully to enable you to follow the rules for charging and still wind up with the entire unit in btb with itself.

So, yeah, IF you can do it, COD would apply. But I doubt you could actually do it.

In the game, there was already a cc taking place. I was able to move during the movement phase to get within two inches, and my squad was able to wrap around combat, in b2b w/ squad and enemy. Thanks for the reply.

Actually Insaniak, from expereince it is rather easy to use CoD when charging. There are some times where it is phycially impossible, but most of the time it really isn't that difficult to accomplish.

yakface's 40K rule #1: Although the rules allow you to use modeling to your advantage, how badly do you need to win your toy soldier games?

yakface's 40K rule #3: Codex does not ALWAYS trump the rulebook, so please don't say that!
