So just before Primaris marines and 8th edition in general dropped I was about to start a Carcharodons army.

Now after reading some of the newer fluff and seeing the Primaris marines, I want them in Space Shark

My question is how would I do this and how would it be justified? Would they still have the same feel and aura as Carcharodons?

My base thesis was to say they created a Company of Carcharodon Primaris put into the Nomad-Predation fleet.

Another interesting question is would they have the technology to make more Primaris marines like the other companies?

Any help appreciated

Apparently they can make regular Marines into Primaris, as well as raising new recruits as Primaris.

The gene-seed being used, however, is from the Heresy-era stocks on Terra, so I expect the Primaris Marines would lack many of the genetic flaws which afflict existing chapters. Prior to the interference of the Alpha Legion, for example, the Raven Guard did not have the Melanchromic malfunction, so they were the same colour as other Marines, and the same is true of the Imperial Fists with their missing Betcher's Gland and Sus-an Membrane. I'm not sure how this degraded genetic structure would interact with the Primaris genes. Are the flaws somehow fixed? I expect this'll be answered in an upcoming book.

The Carcharodons have a quite particular set of genetic flaws which give them their unique flavour. Nevertheless, you can just as easily leave their helmets on and reflect the deeper differences via the tactics you use. The other issue is that part of the Carcharodon's style comes from using very basic and cheap equipment (such as the MkV armour), so the shiny new wargear might not fit so well.

There's certainly nothing to stop you creating Primaris Carcharodons, but as things are at the moment, there aren't any Assault units for you to take. Perhaps for now just focus on making some Intercessor Squads and adding flavour. You can do a lot with paint, and the helmets and pauldrons from the existing Marine range will apparently fit the new models. Then, when we start seeing melee units, you can really go to town.

Ooh, and maybe get hold of some of the Chain-bayonets from the Heresy range. They'll certainly add flavour.

Those ideas sound interesting, I was also thinking of changing power weapons for chainaxes and whatnot, but they would still be power weapons.

I like the that certain Carcharodons were chosen to teach them the chapters history and lore, that way they speak the ancient High Gothic, the geneseed will be the same so they'll have the same flaws.

Another idea aswell is that instead of serving with Guilliman's Unnumbered Sons, they were dispatched on their own to do what Carcharodons do and perhaps not many, or any, other chapters knew of these Carcharodons.

It's have a 'New Dog, Old Tricks' feel, as backwards as that is Chain weapons and markings will be in though.

An alternative idea is that it's a separate chapter made from Carcharodon gene-seed made with the supervision of the Carcharodons?
